Subject: Kentucky girl
Hi ya'll so glad I found this site! So to introduce myself, I'm 21 yrs old full time college student and I have two part time jobs, one at a warehouse packing boxes and the other at an after school care program. I have been a runner for 2 yrs now. I completed my first race last yr, a 5k two week later I completed a 10k, then a 10 miler, and finally a 1/2 marathon. I am now looking to do some duathlons and triathlons along with my regualr running races in 2005. Does anyone know of a good training plan and where I can find it? Thanks. Happy to be here!

Wow you have a great head start with such a great aerobic base from running. This whole site is great for advice, there are some very knowledgeable people here and some very experienced people as well.
Good luck with your training - I hope the pool is kind to you.

Sounds like you are very busy! Unless you are doing a Tri this fall you can probably just focus on building your base in cycling and swimming through the fall and winter while continuing your running program (Say 2 workouts per/week for the bike and swim). Your program starting in about Feb/Mar will change depending on the distance races you select and what your goals are. Sprint, Olympic, 1/2 Iron Man? Competitive or just for fun? It also depends on your experience levels in the bike and swim.
When I started, I focused on my swim because I had never swum competitively or for exercise, so I did 4 swim workouts a week with 3 runs and 3 bikes. Now I do 3 of each plus some strength training 3 days a week. Variation and intensity is the key.
Where do you raft at? I'm a white water guide/white water rescue dude. Mostly in California, Colorado, Oregon, and New York. That is still my first love. Tri's are a close second when it comes to being outdoors.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm planning my first sprint tri in Aug 2005. I'm working on building my running base abck up for the season and biking 2-3 days a week for about 30 minutes each time. I'll start swimming in Jan. because that's when my running team starts and we get a free membership to a VERY nice gym through April. So I'll be able to take lots of swimming classes for free along with spinning classes! I'll probably have to join a gym once my free membership is up to keep up with the swimming. I LOVE white water rafting...I go to the Gauly river in West Virgina. :-)

Hey Nell... where in Kentucky are you? Im in Louisville and trying to find events in the area, groups to train with, encouragement, motivation etc... Im putting my goal for my first sprint around the same time you are, in the second half of 2005. Do you have a specific event you are planning on entering? I havent found much about tri's around the ville.

The gauley and New river gourge are awesome. Too bad the gauley is a controlled release river
You are close to the Upper Yougheheny as well. That is one awesome stretch of Class V+ fury! Totally wicked! Check it out next spring!

Welcome to the board. You drive right by me on your way to the Gauley River I've never rafted though, even after living here most of my life. Looks like you've gotten off to a great start.

There are two clubs that I know of in the Louisville Metro area:

The Louisville Landsharks
www.louisvillelandsharks.org

and my club, the Fort Knox Multisport Club.
www.fortknoxmultisport.com

There's also some cycling clubs. I don't know the Louisville Clubs. But I know there are the Central Kentucky Wheelemen in Elizabethtown, ckwheelmen.org.

Good luck
