Elite 4235 Spring, TX | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) I'm not sure if they're changing the course at all from last year, but it was a great race. Keith puts on a great event and Austin is always a perfect location. For the swim, the water was really warm last year, so I wouldn't expect to wear a wetsuit. It's murky and a little shallow, but none of that should affect your swimming. The bike course is great. It's not flat, but there aren't any heinous climbs either. Make sure you train for hills though. The course was well marked and had pretty good race support out there. The run was pretty brutal. It was a very hot day last year and half of the run is on asphalt. However, the race support was great. Regular water stops/aid stations and plenty of interesting characters dressed up in costume. Post race was great. As usual, sign up for the massage as soon as possible. Plan accordingly for parking, because there is limited area at the race site. |

Regular 1025 | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) The bike course has changed a bit, and is actually a bit easier than last year. The run, most likely, will remain the same. Parking will ALL be at the Expo Center in the AM, to make it easy to get in/out. Last year, there was quite a backup to get in. We'll have a ton of shuttle buses to and from all day for athletes and spectators. The area that was used for parking now will be a Team Tailgating area. All teams/clubs can have their tents set up, have a bbq, beer, fun, etc. Go to the website, and have your club sign up. You'll be given 1 parking pass for your team vehicle, to bring in tent, supplies, etc... Lots of good stuff coming. We'll also have a children's play area, and a spectator tent, just in case its hot again |

Longhorn will be my first HIM and I'mm going because I've only heard great things about all your races. PS: To clean the lint out of the dryer tray, let it accumulate a few loads-it's easy to clean if it's thicker. |

Regular 1025 | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) At first, I was all set to do the 3 loops, judging by the response. Now, it seems, it's split pretty evenly. So, I'm guessing we'll leave it as is. We've got a ton of great ideas to make it fun outside the park. Look for the Longhorn Energy Lab out by the expo |

It was brutal last year due to the sun and complete lack of shade, but the course itself was good. |

Veteran 292 Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) I did the race last year. TriSport did not support then- but may this year? I would recommend going to Fedex (UPS charges twice as much). We were able to ship bikes to Jack and Adams (LBS) for about $90/bike from Chicago. J&A had a great deal to receive, assemble, tune-up, then repack and ship back. Cross your fingers they do it again--THEY WERE AWESOME and a lifesaver after I finished my first HIM. Note not to expect your bike back for about 2 weeks post race; pre-race, J&A needed to receive it the Wed prior to race, which had me shipping it down there the previous THursday (from Chicago). With airlines now charging $15 for the first checked bag, I wonder what their rates are going to for a bike check! Note--I was SOOOOO happy not to have to lug the bike box & bike (about 75 pounds) through the airport, hotel, etc. So worth missing my baby for a few weeks! I miss this race already--maybe 2010 race schedule? (2009 is IMOO!!!) |

Note--I was SOOOOO happy not to have to lug the bike box & bike (about 75 pounds) through the airport, hotel, etc. I just finished taking my bike from San Diego to the Florida 70.3 race, and Continental charged me an extra $100... EACH WAY. And the bike counts as your one included piece of luggage, so checking a second small bag was another $25. And though the bike made the trip without any issues, the TSA was nice enough to open my box up, loose one of the locks, and then not completely secure 2 of the clamps. The only thing keeping my bike from spilling out on the tarmac was a small padlock that I was lucky they replaced even though they didn't secure the clamp section. Definitely not planning to use the airlines anymore. |

Veteran 231 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) Just registered. I just went to Boise 70.3 and was charged $100 each way for my bike. I booked the flight to Austin on Southwest and they only charge $50 each way. Jetblue charges $50 as well. Seems like most others are at $100 now though. My sister is going to sign up for the aqua-bike and fly in from Florida for it. She rode her first 25 miler last week but is a great swimmer. Now I'm just working on my dad to either run 13.1 miles as a relay team member with my sister or do the aqua-bike as well. Otherwise he'll just be the cheerleader. First time my family will see me race let alone join, so should be great!! Was told this race is world class. After the amazing experience Boise gave all it's competitors I hope this race lives up to it! Edited by VinemanCalifornia 2008-06-07 4:47 PM |

New user 1 | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 ( Longhorns) I see you lurking on this thread....fly the bike DHL or Fedex. Jack and Adams is the best tri shop in town and will take excellent care of you. (I promise not to tell them about your interest in a Cervelo!!) You have friends that you can stay with and assure that your post race partying is well taken care of. Hope you're doing well and getting back on track for Arizona. |
