Subject: Easton Vista wheelsThis is about the Easton Vista wheels (not the SLs) - just wanted to get a consensus. I had a discussion with a fellow owner and we've both encountered that our Easton Vista freewheels are stupidly loud. You can literally hear the tick-tick-tick from 30 feet away; this is no exaggeration, it is embarrassing!. Is this common amongst all Easton Vistas or did we just get some duds? Both pairs were 650c, for reference. I removed my cassette to try and access the freewheel and put in some motor oil (did an amazing job at shutting up the freewheel in one of my old, and long gone mountain bikes) but it turns out it's not accessible. I was contemplating on taking the wheel to a shop to get their opinion, but instead I went and tried out a Felt B2 with 700c Vista SLs and my god, they are literally the polar opposite. One of the quietest I've ever heard. I was so impressed that I even went ahead and ordered a pair of Vista SLs in 650c to replace my Vistas. Turns out an online shop is blowing them out for $150/pair with free shipping. I'm crossing my fingers that they're just as quiet as the ones I tried. At that price, I can easily sell off the regular Vistas to get my money back, or sell the front to some bar spinning hipster for $100. If anyone else is suffering from the loudest freewheel known to man, please inquire in here so I know I'm not alone. And if you want some Vista SLs, I'll be glad to share the site. |
