Subject: integrated aerobars...what say you???
hey everyone, im in the market for a new set of aerobars. i'd like to get an integrated set, not clip-ons, and i'd like to hear from my fellow BTers on your suggestions as well as the positives and negatives of your own experiences. i say price isnt a worry, but i'd like to stay within the $500-$800 range. i was looking at the HED aerobar, (not the vantage 8), the visiontech trimax, and possibly a few of the oval concepts (if i can find something reasonably priced). i like the blackwell research concord as well as the zipp vuka, but i dont think i can find them in my price range. the only feature i need are S-bends. any and all input is greatly appreciated, and i'll thank you all in advance for helping me with my search.

At the level you are looking, most will perform very well in regard to weight and aero'.  Try a few and see what feels most comfortable and fits you best.

It's going to be a matter of fit and comfort, regardless of cost.

[this coming from some one who hasn't paid more than $120 for any front-end set-up to date]

I was always a fan of two piece systems for the reasons JeepFleeb mentions, but I was persuaded to try the zipp vuka and love them. The adjustability features gives me all the flexibility of a two piece system.

I spent <$800 on all components for my current build: Ultegra drivetrain and brakes, aero carbon fork, cockpit, everything but the wheels and the frame. Couldn't imagine spending that on just aerobars...

My thoughts exactly. Not only that, even though I'm pretty fast on the bike, I'm not going to show up with nearly a grand in carbon bars and get beat by a guy on a road bike and clip ons.

well, unless i become fabian cancellara overnight, theres always going to be someone out there who can beat me. it doesnt matter to me what you ride or how much it costs, if you're talented, you're talented...plain and simple. i want to upgrade my cockpit and have decided what i am willing to pay for that particular upgrade. some people will say thats way too much, while someone else might say, why not spend a couple grand and get something from oval concepts. i look at it like this......at some point in the future, i am going to purchase my "wow" bike. in the meantime until that time comes around, im going to make all the upgrades to my current setup, i.e. cranks, ceramic BB and pulleys, wheels, and cockpit. some may not agree, some may, but this is my only "hobby/sport" that i spend money on, so its cool with me. i do appreciate everyones opinion tho.

I'm not sure I can add anything to the discussion, but are you putting the new aerobars on a road bike?

I've got the Trimax R-bends and have been very happy with them.  You still have flexibility to raise and lower and widen or narrow your pads.  But the downside is they only come in one stem length.  You really need to be 100% comfortable with your position that it will put you in because any fore/aft movement then has to come from your seat position and not the stem/bars.

Here are mine:

Nope, that is the "official" computer mount that you can get through FSA/Visiontech.  You just zip tie it on.

Correct, I do not use an aerobottle at all, only my downtube bottle in races.

There is zero correlation between disposable income and riding ability. There never will be. I was a cat 4 road racer and raced a carbon fiber Pinarello. Now I'm into TT's and Tri's and I'll be doing my first Tri on a Cervelo P2C. Cool bikes are fun to build, tinker with, and own, and most importantly ride.

If you have the cash, enjoy it in whatever way you see fit. It makes no difference how fast or slow you are.
