Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Let me preface this by saying I already know I have anger management issues and I know what I did was wrong! Took the family to breakfast yesterday at the "Cracker Barrell", even took the neighbors daughter, because we haven't had much time together lately. I park in a spot and even asked my wife if there was enough room on her side because I was quite a distance from the line on my side. She said yes and we went inside. Long wait ahead of us so while we waited we got our daughters halloween costumes they had seen last time we were there (this was part of the reason for going to cracker barrell). an hour later we were sitting eating and about 45 minutes later we left. Got to my truck and, low and behold, there is a huge dent on my door, about midway up with the coating from the other vehicle rubbed on. I look at the minivan next to me and the front door has a nice black mark at the perfect height on the edge of it's door. No note so I feel the hood of the van and it is cold (showing it has been there a while). Note, I drive a large black pick up with a 6" lift and 35" tires. I exploded. I would have been pissed if it happened and they came inside and had the announce that they needed to speak with the owner of the truck, but no, whoever it was didn't bother to own up to it. I went inside and asked if anyone had reported anything, the answer, no. Iasked if they had cameras in the parking lot, no. The manager made sure to inform me that they are not responsible for accidents in the parking lot. I resolved the issue, in my mind anyways, by placing my boot into the side of said door! Lucky my kids were there or it may have been worse. My guess is, the wind caught the door as it was being opened and it flung open and hit my truck. Person either wasn't paying attention when it happened and walked away or just didn't care. This is just another example of whyI don't lik epeople! I need to move to the middle of no where Montanna. Ok, flame me as you will, but I felt much better afterwards. Rant, off. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A couple weeks ago I parked my new car in a lot in New York City. The spots were too small for sub compact cars. I had to let my passengers out before pulling into the spot and I had to squeeze out myself. I thought for sure I would have at least one ding on my car when I returned and considering the car is only 2 months old and is dingless, I wasn't that happy about it. We return a few hours later and just by chance as we are walking up the owners of the Honda Accord parked right next to mine are getting into their car. We're across the street, so at this point the Honda owner has no idea I'm the owner of the car parked right next to his. I watch, thinking if I get a ding I'll see it happen. Instead, the guy opens his door VERY slowly and watches to make sure he doesn't touch my car. He squeezes in and never makes contact. There are some good people out there. And there are some d-bags. Sorry about your truck. I might have opted for a more subtle approach like using my car key on the paint job instead of the visibility of a boot kick. |

Iron Donkey![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I always try very hard to be cautious around other vehicles and opening the car/van doors so as to not scratch/dent/ding another vehicle. It's called courtesy. Sorry that you were a victim of a careless act. Just be careful. One thing you mentioned "Lucky my kids were there..." kind of bothers me. You just showed your chilluns that it's okay to do that. If you knew that it was wrong but went ahead and did the payback anyways, and then let your kids see it happen, why didn't you just go ahead and pummel the vehicle worse? What held you back? *a little note* - I, too, have anger management issues and have paid for my mistake a couple of times in the past. Let just say that persons who have big, fancy-schmancy vehicles and then park diagonally and take up two parking spots have pizzed me off, but "keying" is not a good way to tell them that. Because a couple kicks to a door that my children don't see is one thing, compared to getting a baseball bat ![]() Seriously, I know I was wrong in doing what I did. The, lucky the kids were theree comment came afterwards. No, I don't want my kids to have the temper I have, and yes, I try to control it around them. Ironically, I don't act that way around them often, and never towards them. Believe me, I hate my temper. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My dad makes me park his car as far away from all the other cars as possible. This makes going to Wal-Mart a real treat, because we get about a mile of walking in during each trip! Hey you're a Husker fan? What do you have to be angry about after this Saturday's game?! ![]() |

Stayed behind my boys though, 2 years I see us back on top! In the Lincoln Journal Star yesterday they said that fans were yelling on Saturday, "Ask Callahan the tough questions! Don't let him off the hook!" since his record against ISU was less than desirable. With the way the bottom half of the Top 25 is going crazy, could NU sneak into the Top 25 by the end of the year??? I'm looking forward to the next 5 games. /hijack |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thought we were going to a couple games ago then lost to Va Tech. Ended that run. I believe if it goes well the rest of the year we make sneak in. Only problem is that the rest of our games are all conference and we have 6 or 8, I believe, teams in the top 25. Don't see us not losing the rest of the year, therein killing our chances of squeaking in. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was leaving the short term parking lot at an airport after picking up my wife. After we got in the car a car pulls up in the spot next to us and the driver opens his door right into the side of my car. The proceeds to leave it there, while I am sitting there with the engine running and ready to pull out. We were driving my old beater Mazda so I wasn't really upset about a possible ding, it would never be visible with the damage from getting side swiped in DC. But the dude just sat in his seat with the door open against my car while I'm yelling for him to close it so we can leave. I finally get out of the car, walk around so I'm between his car and mine and yell as loud as I can "Shut your f@cking door so I can leave. Ahole!" The proceed to slam his door shut as forcibly as I can. The dude just sat there looking at us and never said a word. WTF? |

No excuse other than this is where my anger issues come in. I didn't even think of that until you just mentioned it honestly. I admit to being a dumba&^ now too. I will remember this next time. Although, I will sya this. Not sure if it would have been a good thing to have the person come out at that moment. I also should have called the cops I guess, especially with the vehicle still sitting there. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I parked my 6mo old car on the side of a street in Boston. This little college girl pulls up, and proceeds to park by brail, with my car. Of course I say something. Calmly, I said "you just hit my car when you parked, I saw it, and if there's ANY damage, you're paying for it." She looks at me incredulously, and says "calm down, it's only car, noone was hurt." We continued to discuss the issue - me remaining calm, her getting agitated as she's telling me to calm down, which almost got her a good verbal thrashing - but I stayed calm. People value other peoples belongings the way they value theirs. It seems the thinking is along the lines of "well, it's only a car to me, so it's only a car to you. Therefore, I will all over your car because that's what I do to mine." People generally are not mean spirited (there are d-bags to be sure), but when values and morals come into things, that where we get into trouble with others (see all associated politics threads, please). I used to own a Lancer Evolution which is a really SPECIAL car for those who don't know - it's rare and it's easily distinguishable. I used to park that in 2 or three spaces, FAR away from the rest of the cars so I didn't get run into by the idiots. |

![]() | ![]() D.Z. - 2008-10-20 12:15 PM People value other peoples belongings the way they value theirs. Good point. I have lots of dings on my car and couldn't care less. Yet I know people who have gone ape over a scratch that can be rubbed off with a finger. That being said, I would personally never put a 'boot' to the side of someone's car in retalliation. Also agree with 1TT in what the message is that you're sending to your kids... destruction of property is ok as long as it's not yours? Yikes. |
