Im a big fan of not wearing shoes in general, but I ran today no shoes and loved it. Are you required to wear shoes at an event? I planned on getting some vibram five fingers but if I can save 70 bucks that would be awesome

I've only seen it done once, but there's no rule saying you have to run in shoes of any kind.

x2. Should be good to go.

But with most courses, I'd question it myself ......... I like the bottom of my feat and I'm no Bikila.

(If you don't know who that is and you run barefoot, you deserve to be shot).

Just verify with the RD that it is okay.  I'm sure their insurance company would flip out .........

In May I did the run part of a Sprint barefoot, no troubles at all but I would check with the people putting on the race. I've heard that iron distances races don't allow it.

I did a sprint this spring and a girl did the run in barefeet much to everyone's amazement. She does a bunch of races with her dad through this one race promoter so they all thought nothing of it. She is around my oldest daughter's age maybe 14 or so.

I haven't seen that stated, but they don't seem to mind if you start and then take them off along the way.

Good idea...If I ever attempt a HIM or IM i'm going to try that, just carry my shoes and hope I don't have to wear them.

I just designed some CUTE Nike Free iD shoes on their website.  Too bad they're $110.

You may want to check out the Runner's World Barefoot forum. (Not that I'm trying to get you off the BT website! It's just that they're having a whole discussion about barefoot running, vibrams and alternative footwear....)

When I was in High School the coach gave me a hard time for running barefoot around the track.  He timed me for a mile and I finished in 4:55.  He was never critical again.

That of course was a very long time ago.
