Subject: Christmas Party - Help me stay sane!!!!

Tonight is my work christmas party...

Judging from the usual work get togethers it goes something like this:

1) Get really bored

2) Drink too much without realising it because Im bored(and Im a cheap date so a few glasses of wine is too much)

3) Go home, feel very sick

4) Make the next day a write off but still have to go to work

I work in a really small office and the people there are all lovely just not very interesting. The party is compulsory and no partners/friends allowed!

How do I stop the boredom??? (wonder if this should have been a poll)

At my annual x-mas party I had to work the next day so I had two drinks and called it a night. It just isn't worth it anymore. I hate the day after, yuck.

we don't have one!!!

Hubby had one on Sat, though.  boooring.  Sat at a table with his uncle and cousins.  Looked at all the white trash    strange people in too short dresses bending over the bar.  Kept myself occupied watching other people.   Drank.  Ate.  Drank more.  Heck, it was an open bar so drank.  I think most the time more than half the folks were outside smoking even though it was cold.

We did get our pics taken with one of the Bud horses, though.

ahhh.... just people watch.   Plan your day.  Mentally undress people (or not).

huh, you said it's tonight and you posted this at almost 9pm?  oh, wait, you're somewhere else....

Good luck!  HAVE FUN!!

Force them to become interesting, at least in theory.

Ask them to clarify the rumor you heard regarding their New Year's Resolution ... 'So, I heard this year you were taking up base jumping!  Or was that free-basing?'  Get outrageous - you might strike a rich vein of interesting things.

Start a conversation around the best base for a wine cellar ... how long can you leave that Dom lying down?

Go on line now and pull up some bad Christmas jokes.

Poll folks on family traditions, good bad or otherwise.

Take any three of the odd conversations in COJ and offer it up with an Aussie twist.  Do you have burritos down under?

Throw video vs audio iPod Nano on the discussion table and let them duke it out ... slink away home for some good wine.

Enjoy!

Ours was a couple of weeks ago on the roof of the MCA at Circular Quay... would have been fine apart from the lightning (had to duck inside) and the fact that the lightning took out the ovens so the food was a couple of hours late... by the stage is had got very, very messy!

Chris Tree - 2005-12-21 1:41 AM I'm probably too late but - Copious long island iced teas, shirt off, dancing on tables, singing made up songs about the directors, usually makes these little gatherings go with a BANG!!!

Well to answer how it went I think something like the above wouldnt have been too far wrong! I decided to drink cocktails....oops....talked loudly and was very opinionated all night long, and just got to work with a coke (the real stuff not diet), meat pie and sausage roll in my hand...late of course!!!

hehe oh well.....home to bed for me after work!

Now i probably should start a thread about hangover cures!!!!

Sounds like you made the best you could of a dreadful situation. Cheers!

Our X-mas party is actually pretty decent. This year, I made it a lot better by putting be a great dancer. We had a blast. And he really is my friend, not a paid escort. (Somebody actually asked if he was a dance instructor!)

It's all about making the best of the situation at hand.

Office party (since Lara said to obsess about myself):

It's a party with all engineers.  Oh the boredom there.  I may be an engineer by degree...not by mentality or social skills.  A few appetizers, glass of wine for the wife, white russian for me.  Socialize.....dinner...then the FUN  begins.  We get called up one at a time in order of how long we've been with the company, newest person first.  We get out holiday bonus then get to pick a wrapped gift off the table.  Gift was okay....each gift had a DVD in it so I got to trade "Catwoman" for "The Mummy".  Oh yeah, that "BONUS".... $1 for every month with the company.  ONE FREAKIN DOLLAR!!!!  Don't blow my $20 in one place.  DOH!!!!

Had my party two weeks ago and it was a blast. We had roughly $400.00 worth of booze for ten people. The other 16 people didnt drink but they did not have a problem with us throwing down. Then when the party ended several of us started an after party at another bar so we had tons of CHEER!!!!!
