If you haven't watched last nights episode, do not read!

Last night, I knew Dex was going to get caught by someone. I know they are ending the series in two seasons and they said they would be setting it up, but man, I did not want Deb to walk in!  This seasons villian (Travis Marshall aka Colin Hanks) was one of the best villians I think, right up there with the Trinity Killer!

So I wonder, why Dexter end up jailed, or will he walk away or will be killed for the ending?  I know it is to early to speculate, but this show is the only reason I am keeping Showtime!

Not caught up on the show series... but in the book series, Deb already knows. And, she doesn't do anything about it, other than ask him to kill off people that she can't catch legally.

The books are REALLY different though. The first book and TV season are pretty close, then they branch off.

Like, in the books, Rita is still alive. So is Sgt Doakes.

If you're looking for something fun to read, I recommend the series

Remember the ending of last season? Deb knew she had the killer cornered, but she let Dexter and Lumen go (not knowing it was them), because of what the people they killed had done to Lumen. She’s certainly not going to arrest Dexter. Considering how everyone’s always saying she’s just like her dad, I could see her being ok with it.

Here’s how I thought this episode would end: Quinn stumbles on to Dexter and Travis together and, overhearing them, realizes that they’re connected. In the ensuing mayhem, Quinn saves Dexter from being killed by Travis, and is then killed himself. Dexter escapes, but not before arranging the crime scene to portray Quinn as having been killed in the line of duty while taking down DDK. The season ends with Quinn being given a heroes burial.

I thought it would have been kick a$$ if Travis would have killed Dexter in the final scene with his son there (kind of like he was a witness to his mother's murder).  It would have been a nice way to wrap up the show.  Not sure if I'm in for another round or not......

I was wondering if that might happen! It would be crazy bold but so was killing Rita..

I was thoroughly disappointed in this season. The writers are phoning it in. The last 5 minutes was all that the season was worth. They only added the last minute revelation of Deb's weird feelings for Dexter so they could muddy the waters of why she won't arrest him next season. I haven't read the books, but at least they're connecting with one major twist, Deb's knowledge of the dark passenger.

It's a show I want to like, but it's been losing steam. Lithgow was my favorite villain, but the writing was top for only the first couple seasons, and lately it's just lazy. The contrivances and plot holes are making it a parody of itself. Really, the first time ever that Miami Metro just happens to decide to wait for the blood guy to arrive, a ridiculous scenario, just happens to be the time that Dexter needs to "clean up" some evidence connecting him? Really? Come on. I can suspend disbelief for some things, but the rest of the cast has just become a mess of odd decisions and convenient storylines that only serve to make sure Dexter can keep on being Dexter. Sons of Anarchy has had the same fate, and it's only season 4 there.

Maybe I'm jaded because I read the onion's av club reviews each week and find myself agreeing too much.

I hope the next season gets something going that's worthwhile, with the Deb twist. And if they want to throw in a subplot about Dexter's questions of faith and life, give it some legs, don't just pay it lip service then conveniently kill off his new best friend. Nothing came of it in one direction or another. Just some writers' meeting where someone said "hey let's make the villain a religious nutjob and we can just use all sorts of religious imagery and call it a theme, then Dexter thinks about God."

Teejaay - 2011-12-20 11:30 AM i enjoyed the season .... are some things silly?  Sure.  But it's still an entertaining show for me.  Aside from all the things that we did see what about what things that were just sort of "left" in the air?  Like the deal with that intern Louis?  A many shows back I was starting to wonder what his deal was ... suspect he was up to something or knew something ... then we see he has the ice truck killer hand in his apartment ... and then we see him get his "what fors" when Dexter shoots down his serial killer video game, that really shook him ... then we see him send the hand to Dexter with the cryptic palm writings ... then we see Travis open it and sort of "eh" ... then nothing.   I'm guessing that story line will continue next season ... but something is definitely off with Louis.  Thoughts?

Thank you, I was thinking WTF when they didn't give any more info. It will be something next season I'm guessing.

Maybe they’ll pull a page from the Sopranos playbook and never mention Louis again.

I also think the show’s losing steam a little. I had high hopes at the beginning of the season, but I really think the writers have written themselves into a corner with Harrison. He’s going to continue to get older and it’s going to be progressively harder and harder for Dexter to do what he does with a kid in his life. It’s going to become impossible to write around Harrison without taking silly liberties (Harrison’s away at camp! Harrison’s off at boarding school!). Harrison’s basically an inanimate object now, but that’s going to change very soon and they’re going to have to deal with it. They can’t just send him off to live with his grandparents like they did with Astor and Cody.

If Deb knows then maybe she will babysit?

I agree with you 100%... but I like the show so so far I am willing to stick with it.  I will admit even though I saw him getting "caught" killing Travis coming it was still pretty awesome that it was Deb that found out!

Just got caught up two nights ago.  Kind of funny that the writers are going with the whole "Deb is in love with Dexter" bit AFTER those two had gotten married and divorced in real life.

The drama of Deb catching him will play out for several episodes while she figures out how to handle it.  But in the end, she'll come around.  As stated, she had Dexter caught last season and let him go because she sympathized with what they did.  She hardly has much ground to stand on for changing her mind, especially once Dexter fills her in on Harry's code.

What she will probably do is chew him out for making her job harder.  Dexter went from killing people who had beaten the system to deceiving the system so he could make the kill himself.  Deb will probably change that.  Ideally, they would stage the scene at the church to make it look like Travis killed himself.  That way, Deb gets to close the case while Dexter gets the kill.

The hand from the ice truck killer will probably end up being the other major plot point for next season.  Louis making the game from the killer's perspective and other bits and pieces were foreshadowing of the fact that the guy is more than just a bit off.  Throw in his knowledge of forensics and you've created a new, formidable advisory for Dexter.

I didn't read anything yet, don't need the spoilers!

However, I think I played it right this year.  Instead of getting anxious and waiting week to week, I just waited untill the season was over, and just watch them on demand.  That way, I can watch 2-3 in a row instead of getting having to wait!  I love it.  I have two weeks to go.  I have been watching the entire season this last week.

Next up, Boardwalk Empire via the same methode.

Thanks to Showtime's free preview weekend, I was able to pull a full on "Dexter bender" of a weekend. Watched the whole season and I must say it was better than last season. Curious to see what happens with Dex and Deb, and with Dex and computer guy. I think he's probably smart enough to out Dexter in some way, but not skilled enough to be a worthy adversary for next season. Though, they could say he started killing during the season's hiatus and has killed like 5-6 people by the time the premiere rolls around.
