Subject: My first century (+) ride plus major gel malfunctionI'm sure its been done a lot by others on the site, but today I bagged my first century ride (101.2 miles at the end of the driveway ). When my computer got to 99.7 miles I kept looking at it as often as I could because I didn't want to miss it hit triple digits. A big grin came over my face at 100.0 and I looked at my watch which read 5:41:00. Not a fast time but today was supposed to be mostly z1 with some z2 mixed in. Couldn't savor it long because I had to jog the bike to the house and transition to do a short 20 minute brick run.
Highlight of the day was a chocolate Power gel malfunction at about 80 miles. Tore off the top with my teeth and started squeezing the pack. Nothing would come out so I kept squeezing harder until the darn thing burst on the bottom. Had to stop because my right hand and brake hood were covered with chocolate gel. Luckily in our neck of the woods there aren't many cars on the roads and no one was around (except a bunch of dairy cows ) to see me licking the gel off of my brake hoods.
Now that 112 miles of IM WI in Sept. doesn't seem so intimidating. |
