From your own personal experiences, what were the best, most original, or weirdest goodies that you have ever gotten in a race kit?

The RiverCities Triathlon here in Shreveport is known for its race packet which usually includes:

Technical T-Shirt
Triathlon/Bike Shorts
Hat
Triathlon Bag, Backpack, or something similar
Sandals
Sunglasses
Socks
Water Bottle

plus a great race and after party

My favorite is the Luna Bar Mint Chocolate Chip Lip Balm.  Yum.  I got it in the Luna Bar Women's Challenge Sprint last Oct.  I hope they give them out again this year.

Last year the Peachtree City Triathlon gave out socks.  Not plain socks...special ones that had the logo on the sock.  This was in addition to the t-shirt and water bottle...which also had the logo.  I didn't do the race, but Donmck did and they were too small for his feet so I inherited them. Wink

I did the Lake Dow Tri last month and they had these cute wee samples of body glide.  I liked that one. 

They did give out some type of  protien/energy  bar at the Peachtree Road race (like, 70,000+ people participating) which was impressive. 

 I dont really participate in the high dollar races to get the cool stuff I guess.

I picked up my packet for a local sprint, Disco Tri on Thursday, and it had:
running hat
race t-shirt
plastic cup
and your choice of a couple different styles technical t-shirt, race belt, of timing chip holder

not too shabby

Definitely the microwave potato baker. It was at the Whidbey Island Marathon (I did the half). I know...you're jealous, aren't you. Well come see me. I'll bake you a potato IN THE MICROWAVE!

At the Tufts 10K last October, we got little four-ounce bags of brown rice. My husband reports getting a sample of Metamucil one year at the Corporate Challenge!

P.S. But nooooo, I never got a microwave potato baker. Sooooo jealous. ;-)

how much is the race fee? i tried finding it online but couldn't. sometimes i'd rather pay a cheap race fee than get lots of stuff that ups the fee.

i did see that they gave away a honda element for the race last year. i think i need to make a trip to shreveport.

$85, which is a little high for long sprints in this area, but they claim to give away $200 in goodies. Evidently it's a great value because the last two years registration reached capacity in less than three hours. Cheap races are nice, but a ton of swag for the money is OK too.

CajunMan, at $65, gives away a similar amount of booty, except not the tribag/knapsack (or the Element). Of course last year those bastards gave it away to a bunch of hurricane refugees...

ok, so not that bad for all the goodies you get. the best i've gotten are some Euro socks or an Under Armour shirt.

and i have to admit, i already have an Element, but wouldn't mind another one that's free.

I had a friend who got an incontinence pad.  I think it was from the 3M half.  She's young and put it in her gym bag thinking it was another type of pad (which still would have been a wierd race packet thing).  Didnt realize what it actually was until an older woman gave her a strange look when it fell out of her bag in the locker room.

Roll of duct tape with the Teva logo on it. Not sure why, but it was an option. I went with the key ring thingie instead.

Best goodie bag: I haven't done this race yet, but the Pleasant Prairie tri is GOING to be giving out tri bags, running caps, and possibly those nifty technical tees... We'll find out when that day comes! (This is a huge upgrade from the first year I did it, where all I got was a t-shirt with a small stain on it.)

Lamest goodie bag: Firecracker 5K, 2003 - We got lots of ad flyers that I could have cared less about, a REALLY ugly t-shirt, and a band-aid holder...no band-aids.

Strangest goodie bag item: Again, for the Firecracker 5K, which improved its goodie bag by 300%. This time, they gave out deodorant...which was nice...if you're a guy. It was all mens' deodorant. I have it in my bag as a backup.

At a Thanksgiving day 5 miler that several of us BT-ers ran last year, they gave away an apple pie to each of the 6,000 finishers.  We found they had extras at the end so Glen and I went up and took home a case of a dozen pies each.  That was worth more than the entry fee! 

I ended up giving all mine (except 1) to the local homeless shelter.
