Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself - this site is great! I'm totally new to triathlons, and am planning to do the Danskin women's tri in Denver in July as my first (I already signed up, so I'm committed). I love swimming and running, and take the occasional long bike ride for fun, so I figured this would be fun to train for.

I swam competitively in high school and have run a few 5k's over the past few years, so I have the most work to do on the bike. Unfortunately, I think I'm stuck with my cheap mountain bike for this first race, so I'm not counting on getting anywhere too fast! I figure that since I live in Colorado, and the Danskin is a pretty laid-back sounding race, I won't be the only one there riding my full-suspension bike - hopefully I'm right Right now I'm just trying to get my running mileage back up after about a year of laziness. I plan to add in swim and bike workouts in the next couple of months.

Anyhow, that's me! Now I'm not lurking anymore...

-Stacey

Welcome --- just keep in mind ----- you *will* get hooked!!!!!!

no problem with mtb -- many people either start out with these, or continue with them -- as Ron says -- depending on their goals.

Have fun.

Hi and Welcome.

Hope everything works out for Danskin, and don't worry about the bike, mountain bikes are very popular at races. Here in town we have about five different tri races and I would say that 25 to 30 percent of the bikes are MT Bikes, so you won't be the only one. The mountain bikes I've seen racing have racing slick tires on them, so you might consider changing your tires. It will help your time.

Nice to meet you Stacey. No worries with a mtb. Some races in my area actually have a "fat tire" division. Surpising, since there are no hills here!

Hey Stacey! Welcome to this awesome site. About the bike- don't feel bad about it- i would say definately change the knobbies to slicks [tires]. I think they told me that you do more work with the knobbies. Alos, I would have to say most newbies start out with what ever bikes they currently have- no use investing tons of money into a sport the first time around. I promise that you will not be the only one there with a MTB. Good luck to you!

Hi Stacey!

I am another Stacey just starting training for my first sprint . The Timberman Tri in NH. I am very excited to get back in shape after having a baby. I don't know what schedule to follow. I have started with the 2 X balanced.

Today I did my first run. Ugh very cold and I am very slow but I felt great when I finished.

Make it a great day!

Yep, I did my first 4 triathlons on a mountain bike with slicks... you'll see every type of bike out there. Don't spend the $$ on a fancy bike till you're sure this is the sport for you!

Hi Mike

Wow! That is great I will know someone at the Timberman. And it's only yesterday that I signed up for it!

Maybe we could get together in the summer to train.

I live in Quebec outside of Montreal but my mom has a cottage on Winnepesaukee.

Talk to you later,
Stacey H
