The one downside to having taken up triathlon is that I now really, really hate winter. I used to merely dislike but tolerate it. Now I can't wait for it to be over.

I have the same thoughts, but it is also my age that is a small contributing factor in hating snow and cold.  Really thinking a warmer state is much better.

It's easy, run on the roads that are plowed in something like Yak tracks. Thats what I did.

I'm a die hard treadmiller in the winter.  Many of my friends run outside all winter putting spikes in their shoes and everything.  I just don't get it.  It's cold, miserable, dangerous, etc...  The cold and risk of injuring something keep me very happy on the treadmill.

With a couple of inches of snow Yaktrax work very well.  I've had some great runs using them.

I used to love winter and running in the elements but not so much any more.  I still run in just about any conditions but would love to live in a warmer climate.  As you get older, the aches and pains magnify with cold and dampness.

I absolutely love running in the cold. Below freezing with no wind is my favorite running condition (my love of running in the cold decreases as the wind increases). But I'm with you on the spikes, yaktraks, etc. I won't run when there is ice or snow -- it's just too dangerous and not worth the risk of a fall or misstep.

I am a dreadmill runner as soon as the first snow hits.  I fell a few years ago running on snow, because I couldn't see the ice underneath in a section of road.  I could have probably run the same route and never fallen, but when you get "older" you don't recover well from those types of things.

I love the snow, did a double run the other day just to enjoy it!  Today there were a few 2' drifts that gave some challenges but everything was so beautiful....think I'll go back out!

I wear 'IceBugs' and never worry about slipping on ice or losing traction in snow.

Running in packed snow is one thing, running in the loose, soft snow is something else entirely (doubly so if there is ice underneath).  It reminds me of running in loose sand.   My HR for a given pace is easily a full zone higher than it should be....err, my pace for a given zone is WAY slower than it would be otherwise.  That's fine and dandy on a short run, but it sucks when trying to do anything over 10 miles.

The weather we've had here over the last week has really put a dent in my training, making me unwilling to get out and do my long runs.  I'm scheduled for an 11-miler today, and I'm hoping that I can stand doing it on the indoor track at Bally's.  Treadmill's are fine if all you want is the aerobic benefit, but because the belt does half the work for you, your hamstrings don't get all the work they would be getting otherwise.

At least its not "12 Inches of Snow". Having to listen to white Canadian reggae music on repeat during or run or bike would be absolutely miserable. "In-for-mer......"
