Subject: Looking for an indoor pool in or near Sterling
I've been swimming in the local Sterling pools most of the summer but now that they are getting colder (Yes, I'm a wimp) I've decided to go back to Claude Moore for my early morning swims. When I got there I found out they are closing the pool for their yearly maintenance from Aug 25th - Sept 8th. I'm doing the Reston Tri on Sept 7th so this is NOT a good situation.

Can anyone recommend some good indoor pools in the Sterling area that will allow me to either pay per visit or give me a two-week pass without a bunch of hassles and/or calls from sales folks? I know about the Reston Community Center but I was hoping for a suggestion a little closer to home since I'm always having to rush back so my dh can get to work.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Herndon Community Center. It is off Fernandale Ave. almost on Herndon/Sterling border. It costs $6 per visit and the facilities are very nice.

I didn't realize you swam there.  I used to swim there, back when I did swim training.  When do you swim?  Maybe if I had someone there it would help me get my a$$ up.  At least for the next 10 days, until they are closed.

I go Tues/Thurs arriving somewhere around 5:30 - 6 a.m. I'll be the big chick in the black bathing suit...at least until my tri suit comes in this week!

Cool!

BTW, just noticed your "location." Mine would read something like "5 miles from the W&OD!" It's a great warm up/cool down on long ride days.

Hey Z,

What time does the Herndon pool open? I need someplace in the Herndon area that is open by 5 or 5:30 am and it looks like they don't open until 6.

Any other options in the area? I need a pool while Ida Lee is closed. And by the way, why in the heck do all the pools close for maintenance at the same exact time???

I thought maybe the pool at the Reston Community Center would be available but it looks like the whole Hunter's Woods facility is closed and the pool won't re-open until October!

WHAT IS GOING ON??????????? I need a place to swim!!!!!

Apparently RCC made a deal with a private Reston Pool, - Vintage Hill, it is probably going to be more crowded but at least it's a place to go. Here is the link

Actually, it was closed for a few days recently, for cleaning. But only a few days. Not a few months. It's not that big of a facility. Plus, they let us use the pool at the other Sport and Health in the meantime.
