Subject: RE: best leg workouts for runnersSounds to me like you have your ratio upside down. Talk to your trainer about going to high reps/low weight. Rather, more like medium reps/medium weight (I find that to be a good balance for reduced joint wear with adequate muscle development ). Then again, I've never done weight training in order to increase my running, just as part of an overall gettin'-stronger program, so take that FWIW. In ANY training program, you should ask yourself before every single movement if you are working towards your goal. If the answer is "I don't know" or worse, "No," then don't do it!!! Too many trainers (and people working their own programs ) decide they "need" to do XYZ when it doesn't mesh with their goals. If your goal is to have phat, ripped legs, then have at it with high weight/low reps. If your goal is to PR a 5K/10K/marathon/IM, then make sure your strength training meets that goal. Busting out a killer set only to, well, kill your run is counter-productive if your goal is to run, yes? |
