Swim with a waterproof bandage?

The one I tried last year fell off.  It was one of the "major" brands (CURAD?).  I think it was 2" x 3" bandage on my arm, pretty basic, not wrapped around fingers/joints etc.  I swim in a "salt water" pool if that made a difference?

So hold off using the "water proof" store bought bandages, hopefully somebody will offer the better solution.  Maybe putting extra tape/bandages on top of the basic waterproof one etc.

I have used the Nexcare™ Waterproof Clear Protection Bandages on cuts and open blisters.  They stick very well and didn't come off through a 45-minute swim.  I clean off the area with alcohol before applying the bandage to remove any oil and dirt. 

I have had luck with the nexcare product for small cuts.  I had a friend who used plastic wrap and duct taped it on.  The good of that was it didn't leak, the bad was it took the skin when they took it off.  So, duct tape is probably not the best choice.

Ya, I know duct tape fixes everything.

I've used the Band-Aid heavy duty water-proof bandages in a few salt water swims and they work great. They have a duct-tape like threading which helps it stay together. It also flexes well too.

Had success with Nexcare as well a few years ago when trying to race with a cyst in my chest being drained via a plug.  Doctor told me at the time no swimming in pools at all though, had to be all open water swimming in the bay here in town as the salt water was better for it, chlorine it appeared wasn't.

Whichever brand I bought.....it worked, just fine.  Thanks!

For future reference for anyone, the Tegaderm recommended above works wonderfully!  I use it for the sensor for my continuous glucose monitor (I have diabetes), and this works better in the water than any other tapes I've tried.

+1567 on Tegaderm. Other tapes and bandages will come off or leak.

Could somebody tell me about Tegaderm waterproof tapes? What exactly kind of them is better for waterproofing?

Wow, super old thread...but Tegaderm still can't be beat!
Tegaderm is a branded product created by 3M. So any transparent wound dressing manufactured by 3M is using Tegaderm. You can get it in multiple sizes, usually at drugstores like CVS in the US. However, it is very expensive to buy that way. I recommend searching on Amazon and getting larger pieces and packs for a cheaper price per unit.
Tegaderm comes in a lot of varieties these days, and the right one for you is going to depend on what kind of wound you're talking about. I usually am trying to cover road rash, so I still with the Transparent Film Dressing. But if you're talking about some kind of lacerations, or something else, I would suggest asking a doctor or some other kind of medical professional.

Oh, thank you for reply! My husband has a diabetes and I am looking for waterproof protection for his sugar control sensor. I live in Ukraine and here we don't have such things. We are going to the sea this summer and don't want the sensor to be broken)

What did the doc say?

I would not trust it... specially in public pools and open water.

Don't want infections!

Unfortunately our Ukrainian doctors don't know anything about sensors And sometimes they look very surprised when see it on husband's hand. So I have to look about information by myself

I am browsing on this forum and I found this. I know it's super old thread but I can relate on the author of this conversation. I had a major surgical procedure last week and sad to say that it can't be solve by any bandages I have to quit my swimming lesson for my incoming competition.
