Anyone ever try them?? Are they any good? We had some sent to my parents and my in-laws for Christmas. (What do you get for the people that have everything, or no room for anything?) The in-laws seemed less than thrilled to get them, so I'm wondering was this not a good gift to give. I certainly don't expect cartwheels over them, but a simple "thanks, we did receive them" would have been good.

I lived in the midwest most of my life until 93. I spent 20 some years in Omaha and Omaha steaks IMHO is a lot more marketing than good quality beef. I think most of there product is WAY over priced and seriously lacking in quality.

If you ever want really really good aged Nebraska Beef there is a small specialty buthcher shop in Omaha called..... Just Good Meat  they are on 84th st. They do not have a web page  but you can call and order pretty much whatever you want and they will ship.

Now that being said, I am not real big on sending thank you notes and being real formal, but I agree with you yes we got them and thanks would be nice.

If you do something and it's not appreciated, why continue?

But really, the stuff form JGM is awesome and it is priced reasonably!!!!

Thanks Jim, I will keep JGM in mind for the future. My husband and I thought we were being really clever. Next time I'll research a little better. I agree about Omaha's pricing, so am disappointed to know the quality is not up to par.

My business partner got those for me the last 2 Christmases, I still have last years in the freezer.  I'm not a big steak eater.  They seemed OK but I really don't know how to cook them.

Sue, what kind of steaks did you get.

Do you have a bbq grill?

I cook steaks frozen all the time, some will say don't do that. But we are pretty active and busy so we don't always plan far enough ahead to thaw then cook.

We just throw them on the grill after letting the grill warm up about 5 minutes. a steak about an 1" thick will take between 20 and thirty minutes to cook to medium. I ck it about every 5 minutes or so and will flip it about 90 degrees to get those cute little grill marks on it.

You can always stick them under the broiler in your oven, I would suggest thawing before doing that though.

Any other questions about cooking feel free to ask, cause i've got an opinion on just about anything in the kitchen.

Happy New Year,

Jim

Sue, I would imagine that they are in a vaccum sealed shrinkwrap. If they are, while they are old and won't be as good as they would have 6 months ago, I would at the very least try them.

I sometimes put even a frozen steak on a frying pan, I use a cast iron pan, but any one will do.

If it's frozen it will create a little smoke in the house.

Give it a go, worst thing that can happen is you end up trying it, throwing it out and gettin some chinese take out!!!

We just had steak, eggs and toast for our New Year's brunch..... It was yummmy!!!

Happy New Year!

My mother-out-law has sent us steaks from Omaha the last three years. She has almost shed the "out-law" moniker as a result.

The filet mignons are unbelievable, especially with the Red Wine sauce recipe that came with ours. I could bury my face it that stuff!

All the cuts of beef we've had are lean, trimmed very well, and cooked according to the directions, you don't even need a steak knife.

I will admit that the first year we got them, I was unsure how to react. After eating them, I make sure she knows "I'm not worthy!"

I agree with the earlier comments.  It's good, but a bit steep for the quality.  Admittedly, I don't know too many places that will ship it on ice for you.

Just Good Meat in Omaha will ship it with dry ice, and is very reasonable for better quality beef that Omaha Steaks. Don't get me wrong, Omaha Steaks are good, just not as good or of as consistant quality as Just Good Meats.
