Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: 21st birthday gift My boyfriend's sister is turning 21 tomorrow and of course I want to get her a gift. But I'm struggling to come up with something "appropriate" from her brother's 35-year-old girlfriend... I want it to be a FUN gift, but also something she will enjoy and not just laugh at and toss it. First thoughts were along the lines of a wine she mentioned she liked (but she does not love wine in general), clothes or jewelry (all though I did that for Christmas), gift cards to restaurants (she is a broke college kid), alcohol glassware (wine glasses or beer pints)... kind of lost here. Boyfriend is getting her a bible (her request), gift cards and Advil I am racking my brain to remember what I was into when I was in her shoes as a 21-year-old college girl but all I can remember is wanting to have a legal margarita with my friends. Any ideas? Serious or not-so-serious, either way |

x2, I think a fun party game is a great idea. I can see it now... a bible... and then Cards Against Humanity in a gift bag! HAHAHAHA! I would say a gift card to a restaurant. Eating out was always a treat when I was in college. And she can get herself some alcohol on it, if she so wishes.

Their Aunt often sent them Starbucks (and other) gift cards, both for birthdays and at random times. To say they were grateful is putting it mildly. IIRC, a gift card to any place that serves food and alcohol was also gratefully received. |

Obviously drinking themed items, but I'd suggest a bundle that encourages some responsibility. A bottle of nice wine and a pair of stemless glasses, or a couple craft brews and a stein. Maybe some complimentary foods. Stuff that normal college kids wouldn't spend their own $$ on. Something to prepare for job interviews. A portfolio or organizer along with a few lines about how you successfully interviewed. |

We were all laughing our butts off. I imagine throwing a few alcoholic beverages into the mix can only make it more hilarious. |

Expert 2192 Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: 21st birthday gift Eh I feel 21st birthday gifts should always be alcohol related if the person drinks. Maybe an etched wine glass with her initials in the same fashion as the car stickers with initials? Could get that done in 10 minutes at the mall in Wichita, I'm sure they have some sort of shop like that as most malls do. Nice bottle of booze also works. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: 21st birthday gift Thank you all for the suggestions! Definitely checking out that game soon! I had to move quickly so ended up getting these stemless wine glasses and 2 bottles of wine (couldn't remember which of 2 she liked so I got both - turns out she loves both). Nailed it! I am definitely planning on taking her out for drinks soon. I actually wanted to take her out at midnight last night after dinner but apparently the laws in my state have changed since I turn 21 and they won't serve you until the next business day rolls around. |

I like that idea for a graduation gift but feels like kind of a downer for a 21st birthday lol! This one will be in school a few/many more years with a change in her major and pharmacy school on the horizon. |

Thats very interesting..I remember when I turned 21, my roomates and I (all 3 turned 21 the same week) we went to the bars the night before my Bday and when they looked at the ID they had no problem with letting me in since I was turning 21 in a few hours. |

Graduation is too late for this kind of gift...Most graduates want the interview > Job offer by the time they graduate. (I included it as an alternative to alcohol related gifts.) |
