Just realized we didn't have a Hillary thread.

It's kind of interesting to see her falling behind in both Iowa and NH in the latest polling.  Personally, I'm encouraged because it shows that the Democrats are starting to get the same anti-establishment vibe going that the republicans have.

I find it interesting that Bernie is labeled by many as anti-establishment when he (Cruz too) has spent his entire career IN politics, which seems, by definition, establishment in one way or another.

Whatever though. FEEL THE BERN!

Will gladly support Hillary though and may end up supporting her as she is more electable in my opinion than Bernie. Vitally important in my opinion that the Rs lose, especially when up to 4 SCOTUS appointments may come up in the next few years.

Granted the Democrats don't have a lot of choices, so Bernie is the "most" anti-establishment guy they have but I get what you're saying.

For me, I think his speaking out against money in politics and corruption is what qualifies him as an "outsider" in addition to the majority of his financial support coming from small individual donors.
Whereas Hillary is completely owned by wallstreet and other big dollar donors.

I do agree that Hillary is "more electable" from a base of support standpoint, but I that's not saying much.

I think that is great about Bernie, he really does practice what he preaches when talking about money in politics.  However I think that many of his ideas are just too out there and would never get implemented.

I don't like Hillary for that matter either.  I don't trust her, for various reasons.

Basically I have no idea who I am going to vote for.  This will be my 4th election I can vote in and so far the only one that I am not excited about.

Yeah, a part of me is surprised that Sanders is still hanging around, although I don't think Hillary has really turned up the heat on her campaign. She still feels like she's staying out of the fray. I think, tactically, she made a mistake by not taking Sanders more seriously earlier and she should probably start mixing it up a little more before she finds herself playing catch up and needing to play hard-ball with a very likeable candidate in Sanders.

I would still be shocked if she was not the Democratic nominee. Sanders has been doing really well with younger voters (which is funny, since he's the oldest candidate in the race) but Hillary has historically done well with that group too, so it's probably not too late to win many of them back, especially as she starts to pick up key endorsements like the one from PP.

It's surprising to see Cruz overtake Trump in Iowa but still be so far behind him in the national polls. The hopeful side of me thinks that it's a sign that as people get close to actually having to pull a lever and vote for someone, the thought of electing President Trump seems less and less appealing.

I was listening to the radio and a conservative commentator (can't remember which one) mentioned what he thought the discrepancy was in Iowa.  He said many of the polls ask "Have you ever voted in a caucus before" and then the next question is "who do you support".  So the people who say no are automatically removed from the likely caucus voters even though they supported Trump.  The reason this is significant is a huge chunk of Trumps support is from first time caucus goers, so they're not being reflected in the polls.
Most pundits feel that if Trump's big crowds come out to caucus for him, then it's going to be a big Trump win.  If it's up to the traditional caucus goers and Trump supporters stay home then it will be a Cruz win.
Based on seeing people stand in line for hours on end just to see one of his events, it's hard for me to believe that his supporters won't turn out.

Even if Trump loses Iowa his support is so yuge nationally and cruz's far right conservative/evangelical appeal doesn't play well in places like NH and elsewhere.  It would have to be somebody else to take Trump to task nationally and I just don't see anyone doing it to this point.  Another interesting aspect is that Trump is getting yuge support (for a republican) from the blue collar democrats.  His message of bringing jobs back and booting illegals out is something they care about deeply.  I've even seen a few Republicans trying to use this against Trump.  "The Democrats are supporting him, so he has to be bad" etc.

Yeah, I tend to believe the same.  I don't know how well Bernie plays beyond the first few states, but eventually the Democrats are likely to see that he's not going to do very well in the general.  Personally, I keep going back and forth between whose a "worse" candidate to face in the general election and it's hard to decide due to them both being so bad.  lol

I lean more towards Bernie simply because nothing would surprise me with Clinton and she could be far more diabolical.

As for Hillary, me being a Left-o-center guy, she still doesn't do it for me...neither does Bernie.
  • ..I'm still holding out hope the R's were right and Obama truly is bent on seizing absolute power! 3rd term is a-okay by me!

  • 2016 is going to be a, "plug my nose with one hand, and vote for the Democratic nominee with the other" kind of election...kinda like Gore and Kerry in '00 and '04. Regardless of polls at this time I find it hard to believe Sanders would get the nomination...but, stranger things have happened I guess.

Now you know what the Republicans have been feeling like the last two elections.  McCain and Romney were ick.

I think it was Kasich who said that if Bernie gets the nomination then the Republicans will sweep all 50 states.  I know that's not true, but he's so bad (politically speaking) that he would be the greatest gift the Republicans could ever ask for.  I don't really think he'll get the nod either, but Hillary's legal challenges could force the issue.

I find it humorous that Clinton keeps harping on Sander's gun stance instead of just calling him a socialist wacko.  She obviously doesn't want to alienate the populous of socialist wackos that would vote for her in the general election.  The sad thing is that the primaries are about attacking those candidates and views that are too close to the center of the political and realistic spectrum.

As I said in the other thread, pandering to the Democratic (ie socialist whacko) base hasn't really hurt the Dem's in the last two elections. I consider myself fairly moderate, considering that I'm a NY-er and I think a lot of Bernie's ideas are bonkers. But I know a lot of very progressive democrats who really like him. It's in Hillary's best interest to play nice with Bernie, as he's been playing nice with her, and ensure that his supporters move to her side when and if she gets the nomination.

Unlike the GOP, the two democratic candidates aren't employing a scorched-earth strategy. It would be hard to imagine a person who was a Bush supporter throwing their support behind Trump, for example, given how Trump has belittled Bush throughout the campaign.

The funny thing about Bernie's gun stance is that it's not as though he's this super-hard-line "from my cold dead hand" gun guy. I think the NRA gave him a failing grade despite the fact that he's more pro-gun (or less anti-gun) than a lot of Democrats. He comes from a state where there's a mostly rural population and lots of people have guns. If he somehow got the democratic nomination, I'm sure that he'd be able to couch his stance on guns in such a way that anyone but the most rabid anti-gun democrat would be ok with it.

Fortunately Bush only has like 2% support, so Trump doesn't need his supporters.  (I kid)

Not this Democrat. And not any others that I know either...

You know, just when I might start to get a little concerned, along comes Sarah and The Right Reverend Donald J. Trump bumbling over the Bible and the clown show music starts to play all over again...

lol, that was hilarious.  You know it's a sin, but it feels good.  haha

It's always awkward when Donald goes evangelical and I don't know anyone who even remotely thinks he's a religious guy.  I'm not sure if I qualify as an evangelical or not in the political sense, but I support him knowing full well he's not a very actively practicing Christian (if at all).

I hope Bloomberg jumps in just to throw the whole two party system into a tizzy. I don't care for either extreme.

Rumors are he'll only enter if Sanders gets the dem slot and as a left leaning independent I think Sanders is pretty extreme.
