Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, I have been trying to find a pair tri shorts and a supportive tri top that I won't have to necessarily wear a sports bra underneath. I have a one piece tri suit from JAM that I love but don't love the wiggling into it after going to the bathroom hence the search for a pair of tri shorts and top that are just as comfortable. So far, I have not had any luck. I know there have been other posts on this but cannot find specific brand and style info that has worked for others. I am a size 18 on the bottom and carry most of my weight in my hips and butt. I wear a size 14 on top (or a regular XL) so the problem I have with many of the tri tops is that they fit in the chest and support without a sports bra but have to be jammed down over my hips and don't think that it will stay down. PLEASE help me narrow down my searching! THANKS! |

Member![]() | ![]() I am similarly sized to you and, thanks to other suggestions on this site, found that the Danskin Tri Shorts & Tops in XXL fit the bill. I think that REI still has the shorts but I had to get the top from Danskin as REI was out of the XXL size.....I started with XL top but found that it wouldn't fit down over hips, the XXL is working better. Glad I tried riding in the shorts first 'cause they were surprisingly slippery! Good luck! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny you should mention the danskin since the XL top is exactly what I had just gotten and it is too small on my hips. I will have to check around about getting it in the XXL. I will also have to check on the shorts. Are the shorts the danskin triathlon bike shorts? Edited by Fechter99 2008-08-13 6:23 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Can't find the danskin XXL anywhere on the internet. Any other suggested brands? What about the unisex or mens sizes for shorts? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Why do you want to go sans sports bra? It'll make your shirt search a lot easier... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was hoping to not have to buy a sports bra mostly because I did not want to wear multiple layers particularly during the summer. I do not need to wear one with my one pieces suit since it offers lots of support so I had hoped to find a top that did the same. I am learning that it will definitely be harder to find a top that offers the same support as my suit. I have gotten a few suggestions on sports bras so if I had to go with a less supportive top, I do have that option. I just need to find something that fits and does not ride up on my hips. |

Member![]() | ![]() For Danskin XXL tri top - look at the Danskin site online. I just ordered a second one this week, arrived yesterday, so they still had it then in both blue & black. I didn't see it anywhere else when I googled, either, and REI web site has been out for over a month. My plan for upcoming super sprint is to throw on a dry-fit shirt over the top for extra coverage (modest!). Good luck! |

Member![]() | ![]() Oh, and yes, the tri shorts are Danskin too, XXL, found one pair at REI and one at danskin.com. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ladies...for those of you shopping at REI...where are you all finding triathlon gear in their stores? Is it in a special section by itself? Because I don't ever see any tri gear at my local REI...but then I'm usually only looking in the cycling section. Is it someplace else in the store and I'm missing it? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The stuff I got from REI was online but my husband did buy tri shorts at the store near us. The shorts were not with the cycling stuff but with the athletic wear. You should definitely ask them where they keep it since they definitely do carry stuff. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Go for Zoot Men's 8 inch XXL tri-shorts. They are awesome and will fit you. I have several pairs and have now gone down to the XL but my husband who's 6'1 and 270lbs is wearing my XXL ones just fine. Love those shorts! |

At my local REI, the tri stuff is by the swimwear. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() http://www.zootsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=3_26_34&products_id=1370 I wear this Zoot top to race in. Takes some time getting into but I can run in it without an added sports bra. The builkt in one works well. I am a 38DD. It is not cheap but it works. It wont come down over your hips but it will come down over the top of the shorts and not ride up. I should mention it is tight enough my husband has to help me get it off if I soaked in sweat http://www.zootsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=3_26_33&products_id=1113 I use these Zoot shorts as I don't like gripper elastic pinchign mylegs. These are smooth leg edges. The have a normal waist height (does not sit low on the hips) so the top covers them even on the bike so I do not have to sunscreen that strip nor constantly tug down my shirt. I should probably add I am small 5'3" so if you are really tall it may not be long enough. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Whenever I get the glorious opportunity to get to an REI, I am drooling over all the outdoor gear, not thinking about tris. Maybe I'll have to try to mop up and think outside the woods-box next time? Or maybe I can decide that I really need a Pocket Rocket for tris, and it can come out of that part of the budget. Yeah, yeah, that's it, I totally need a stove in T1 to warm up!! ![]() Fortunately, I don't need a whole lot of support. I went to Marshalls and found a sports bra tankini that works perfectly. There were lots of different lengths there. I even tried some of the swim tankinis, but they didn't fit right. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wanted to let everyone know that REI is having a clearance sale this weekend and have a bunch of their triathlon clothes on sale among other things. Just an update, I did receive the danskin tri shorts but they were out of the XXL so I ordered the XL and they fit great. I did need the XXL shirt so that it does stay down over my hips. I have to start training in them so that I am ready for my triathlon in September. |

Awesome deals on soooo much! I bought the Danskin race belt skirt I've been eyeing and will try it out in my tri tomorrow. Also got a great sports bra, running tights, shorts, kids' clothes, some shoes...and more. And the prices were amazing!! They had a lot of tri clothes in stock but I didn't really need another tri suit....good price, $30. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got a top from athleta.com that has a built in underwire - I think it's classified as a climbing top but it worked great for a sprint I did last month. http://www.athleta.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=3383&... The built in bra was fabulous - I just wore the top and a pair of tri shorts and I was good to go. I am very top heavy and ahem, full throughout my midsection, but the top was long enough to cover my middle, with a few tugs here and there. Their shipping is very reasonable, so if it doesn't work out it's not like you're out half the cost of the top to get it shipped to you. And yes, my Danskin tri shorts are my absolute favorite too! |
