Subject: RE: IMC Registration? ? ? ?Actually there's a rumor going around that they're going to have an on-line registration for a very limited amount of slots. I think 200-300 is the number going around.
Prior to the registration for the 25th anniversary race last year, they would close registration on Monday afternoon. And then in September they would auction off a couple of hundred slots. Demand was too high on site to do the auction for the 25th anniversary race.
Last year they announced after the race they would do the auction, and then the next day cancelled it. The speculation at the time was that WTC stepped in and shut the lottery down since IM Kentucky had yet to fill up.
This year there were "only" 2,200 athletes which is less then Lake Placid, but the venue can handle more then Lake Placid (bigger lake, one loop bike, bigger community with more lodging, etc. ).
They may wait and see how many people with vouchers actually register and then offer either an on-line registration or an auction.
I would check the ironman.com and ironman.ca websites daily to see what they do.
