In the past he has always basically said no to going back into triathlon. This interview seems pretty cut and dry that he will.

It definitely looks that way.  I'd love to see how it would play out!

Well, makes sense honestly...it's a bit of an untapped resource right now for his fundraising efforts...

Neat... so he's not just talkin' a qualifier and kona... he's wanting to really put forth some serious effort and do "several" Ironmans... that's exciting!

Not much room for doubt in these statements:

Are you going back to triathlon? Should we look for you at Kona?
I trained at Kona before the Tour Down Under. I was there. I’d like to go back and try some Ironman events. Not just Kona.

Can you compete at that level? Have you run the numbers?
Not the numbers, but I know how fast I can ride. I know how fast they ride. The big question is, how quick can I run? I’d have to run as fast as I’ve ever run a marathon.

Do you try to come off the bike with a big lead?
I don’t know that that’s necessary. I think the recipe would be to ride conservatively and really plan on running. You could ride your off and get 10 minutes—but you’ll lose 20 or 30 in the run.

So instead, you conserve energy and come off the bike feeling better than everyone else.
That’s the idea, anyway. It works when we’re talking about it now, but then you get there and it all changes. That’s why I need to do a couple. I need to do some half-Ironman events—get my swimming back. I don’t know that I can win. Some of these guys go quick.

It doesn’t seem like you need to win to age gracefully.
I want to stay fit and have a great lifestyle. I don’t necessarily need to win the Tour, win the Ironman, or run 2:20 in a marathon. It’s also about what we do at the foundation and with the team. People look at that and think, Man, look at any other retired cyclist; they’re damn sure not out there doing that.

He stated, several months back that he would like to get back into triathlon once he is done with his comeback in cycling.

Hey....good for him and good for the sport.  Any opportunity to add a single dollar/visibility to the foundation has gotta be a good thing.......

Very cool.  If he goes this route, it will be a lot of fun to follow.

On a side note, does anyone else find it interesting and telling that he said, "we didn't win the tour."

A team member would typically be referring to their team when they say "we."   Perhaps he meant "the Royal we."

Sweet! I'm about to be 35... I'm competing against Lance... Awesome!

I doubt I'll ever be in a race with him, but it's still cool to think about....  Most people couldn't name a single pro triathlete.

More recognition for Tris= more people willing to Try - Tri= more healthy people= less sick people= less health care bills= fixed economy/ repair the hole in the ozone layer/ no more global warming/ and a cure for cancer.

Wonder when it will be.
I think he won't be doing it for real while he is supposed to be heading a new cycling team.
How long is that contract?

Any one remember another tour contender Laurent Jalaber geting into Tri?
I think he raced the hawaii IM and not surprisingly, did well on the bike section.

I don't think he meant it that way.  I think he was referring to himself and the Foundation.  (But there's no doubt Armstrong has a gi-normous ego, not questioning that!)

I hope he does it.

Then goes and does something that would be truly amazing (for him).  Win a Olympic gold in Ping Pong.

Yes, I think that is what he meant also, which is why it stood out to me.  His team won the tour, yet he said "we didn't win."
