Subject: How much faster is the bike
Hey All,
I have a question about bikes.....
I know that it is the engine that matters, and my engine is definately improving.
However, I want to get faster on the bike, so here is the deal-
I have a Giant FCR-2 or 3. I love the bike and have had it for about 2 years. It has flat bars and I put clip on aeros on it.
My average times are up to about 18 or so.
I have read that the flat bars sticking out on the sides will have a seriously detrimental effect at speeds over 15 mph. How much of a boost would I get if I had drops instead?
Thoughts?

Handlebars sticking out the side are going to offer minimal additional air resistance. Certainly insignificant when compared to the fairly upright riding position, even when you're adding aerobars to what is described as a comfort/fitness road bike. That is where the most significant "seriously detrimental effect" is going to come from: your position on the bike.
