Comments: "9:37..... 9:13..... break 9?" These were my comments in my draft race report. Thought it was a 5k, turned out to be a 3 mile run. My original goal was 27:59 or less for 5K, which would put me (just) under 9:00/mile. When I learned it was a 3 mile, I adjusted downward slightly to somewhere in teh 27s, but didn't have a number. Just wanted to beat 9 minute miles. Didn't matter, since there were no mile markers, I had no idea where I was. I was feeling pretty slow, and convinced that I was going to be slower than the last one. Although there were no three legged dogs passing me this time, there were dogs and kids and skateboarders and baby buggies and all sorts of people on the course. At one point I passed a guy walking wearing a cape and mask and, as I passed I thought to myself "hmph, not much of a superhero....." Coming down the last flat straightaway, it's long enough that you could see the finish from about 1 mile out, but it was so foggy, couldn't really see it until 1/4-1/2 mile out. I started picking it up a bit at Costco, the only landmark I really knew. It was hurting and my lungs were burning, but I knew it'd be over soon. As soon as I saw the finish banner a few hundred yards off, I looked down and saw my watch at high 25s. Wow, wonder how long it'll take to get there. Cut the distance in half, watch said 26 and some change. Holy crap, I'm gonna beat my goal. No I'm not, I'm gonna shatter my goal. Crossed the line at 26:41. As much as I tried, I could not calculate the average in my head, and couldn't wait to get home and log it here to find out. 8:53!!!!!!!! ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit, ate some stuff, came home. Not enough stretching, my calves were hurting the next day What limited your ability to perform faster: Legs felt ok, it was the lungs that were hurting Event comments: Fun little local run, good for getting out T'giving morning is about all. I am always amazed at the number of people that pay $25 to show up to run, and also to volunteer at these things. Something about the huan condition. Enjoyed the run. However, they could at least set up some sort of mile 1 and 2 marker, a drink station would be nice but at three miles I guess it's not really necessary Last updated: 2005-11-01 12:00 AM
