Pre-race routine:

Woke up and found every piece of warm light clothing I owned.
Event warmup:

Ran for a bit and stayed warm.
Run
  • 28m 38s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was second after the bike. Since I rode my MTn bike today it killed my legs for the run. That is the slowest run leg I have ever done in any race. It was so cold, I had no air in my lungs and they HURT. My legs were toast and had nothing left. I did catch the girl that beat my ass on the bike at mile 2. I was passed by an Equadorian man that took 2nd at Boston Marathon. I was in awe just watching him fly past me at mile 2 and 1/2. I finished pretty strong on an up hill finish. I felt really sluggish the whole run. I kept the pace slow at first an tried to settle into a faster pace but could not.
What would you do differently?:

Not do intervals on the bike the day before. Ride my road bike. Others did.
Transition 1
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Had to take off my MTn shoes and booties and helmet. It was actully pretty fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 40m
  • 11 miles
  • 16.50 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course was all snow and ice with a few pathces of dry road. Many people road their road bikes. I wish I had. My MTN bike was very slow and I lost my back shock at the turn around, which changed my postition on the bike. Had the only other person in my wave beat me on the bike and it was a girl. I have never had a girl beat me on the bike. Of course she was an X saturn bike racer but hey, I am competitive.
I ahd another guy on a cross bike pass me at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride my MTN bike
Post race
Warm down:

Ate cup o noodles and talk to some friends. It was nice after the race. I didn't stick around for post race activities, too cold.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

cold, wimpiness.

Event comments:

Chilly Cheeks is fun and close to my house. I wish it was bit warmer today.

Nice race and nice to see you!! I am now trying to make up for my "slacking" on postage lately. It was certainly cold. And I have to agree that the road bike was still appropriate. I think I matched your bike time and never came close to falling. I think you did pretty well considering the weather. My body didn't know WHAT to think!
