Swim
Comments: I was very disappointed in my swim, I must of got too excited with jumping in and taking off. I did a flip turn on the first turn and almost went head first into the guy behind me as he was swimming in the middle of the lane. At the other end I dove under the rope to touch and go off the other wall and just fell out of rhythm. By mid way up the second lap my breathing was off and i was pushing it to hard. No more flip turns the rest of the way, in the third and 4th lap I even held onto the wall for a second or two to catch my breath. By the last lap I fell into a groove. What would you do differently?: Practice the snake type a little more and really need to improve my breathing technique and lung capacity. Transition 1
Comments: TI was a bit of a mess, I got to the bike and put my helmet on. Took my shoes out of the bag they were in (it was raining so I put all my shoes and gear in a garbage bag) I forgot to open all the clips on the shoes and lost time doing that. running up to the mount line the first 100 yards was puddles and some mud but after that it was all sidewalk so all the dirt was knocked out of my cleats. What would you do differently?: make sure all my shoes are open and ready to go. I used the garbage bag to keep things some what dry and it did help get items on easier. Bike
Comments: I liked the course but was a bit over confident in what I could do on it even in the rain. I handled most of the hills well and kick the crap out of the biggest one but that did take a toll on my legs for the last few miles of the course and the last two rollers were killing me. What would you do differently?: I should of held back a bit in the first 5 miles even with some nice declines that i was able to make up some great time on. I still had some I could of used at the end. Transition 2
Comments: Mostly ok, Putting my shoes onto wet feet the tongues got bunched up and had to was some time fixing that, because of that I rushed out of transition not fixing my laces right. Had to stop and do that on the run. What would you do differently?: If I had taken the second to use the towel I left there for my feet it would of helped. Run
Comments: Run course was ok, I was hurting a bit in the first mile but by mile 2 I was feeling better. I picked up the pace at around mile 2.5 and I did sprint across the finish line. there was someone just in front of me and I had to pass him :-) What would you do differently?: not sure, my legs were a bit burnt from the ride and by the time I was feeling better I was almost to the end. Post race
Warm down: I did a 15 minute light jog. What limited your ability to perform faster: Over doing it a bit on the bike, as I did drive the course I need to pay better attention to the hills and when and where to really push it. Event comments: I really love Richmond Mutlisport events, they always do such a great job. As I am super excited for the end result I really have identified a lot of areas to improve on.
