Pre-race routine:

I had no routine, this was my first triathlon. I arrived early and was marked and then entered the transition area. I put on my headphones and listened to some light music to calm me down a bit. I racked my bike, layed out my stuff, and went through the race in my mind going over every piece of equipment. Then it was time to go.
Event warmup:

No warm-up
Swim
  • 33m 48s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my firts triathlon. I did not spend enough time preparing for the open water swim. I swam 99% in the pool. The waves were incredibley bad. I spent about the firts 400 meters hyperventilating and wondering if I was going to die.
What would you do differently?:

More practice time in race conditions and a warm up swim before the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
What would you do differently?:

Maybe try and leave my shoes in the pedal. I put on my shoes in the transition area. I am not sure about this.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 11s
  • 40 kms
  • 39.88 km/hr
Comments:

The bike is my best event, started biking about 6 years ago. I missed the pedal after the mount line and had to stop and take the time to get in the pedal.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe leave the shoes in the pedals coming out of T1. I would really like some pursuit bars
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

I need to learn to leave my shoes in the pedals.
Run
  • 48m 48s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 53s  min/km
Comments:

I felt better than I thought I would off the bike. I really pushed it hard and my legs felt fine. I would like to have been faster.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and played with my kids at the park. Ate fruit and pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training
