Cycling Tours - US

This is a bit off topic, but could ones who've done a guided 'bike tour' vacation please share their experience?  My wife and I have friends who like to travel, wherein the husbands cycle but the wives do not.  I'm looking to do a 3-4-day cycling trip in the US somewhere.  I've read some on these and there are many tour companies that arrange lodging, bikes, equipment, SAG support, food and drinks.  Most have a "singles" option wherein one pays extra to have a private room.  With the private room, this accommodates a couple and the wives come and do their thing while we're out on the road.  Some of the US regions are in the Pacific Northwest, California Wine Country, Northeast as in Vermont and Maine, et al. 

If ones here have done this, your thoughts, suggestions and/or experiences are appreciated.
