Anyone notice the swimmers double swim capping? Whats the reason for this?

I heard the announcer say it was because the swim goggle strap causes 1% of the drag. Whether or not that is true I don't know, but 1% seems like a lot.

The earrings seemed odd to me as well. I've also noticed they wear their goggles so tight they are leaving red marks after being on for just a few minutes. One of the American girls always has ring marks on her forehead too since she keeps them up there pre-race. I guess they struggle with goggle leaks as well.

I did some more searching. It seems possibly the first cap is latex, since it sticks better to the head. The second cap is a molded silicone cap. Silicone caps tend to be slippery.

Judge for yourself though:

The goggles are tight because it's VERY HARD to keep them from flying off when you dive into the water. If you make them super tight you won't lose them when you dive in.

Yeah, Katie Hoff. And we think it's difficult keeping goggles on when we get whacked in the face. Diving into water off the blocks and keeping them on is hard, if you've ever tried it. Real swimmers get it done. But the rest of us would be floundering around like idiots trying to put the things back on.

As a former swimmer, keeping your googles on diving off the blocks is very easy, looking at your belly button is all you need to do when you enter the water.....

The tightness is just personal perfernance or a nervous tick. Some people figit with their suit, loosen up their arms, wiggle the fingers, spit water...anything to keep from thinking about the start and smashing the googles into your face is just another example. When Phelps goggles filled he was pistttt cause its something that just dosn't happen at that level - not even in H.S. unless you have a mental lapse.

Hoff does have wicked tight googles as you can see from the marks on her forehead.

Also, alot of the swimmers are using silicone caps on top of latex caps.  I noticed that the top cap was much more rigid and asked why.  Basically I was told the silicone caps are more aero dynamic in the water but are not as easy to put on.  Basically the latex cap goes on the the google then the silcone cap.

Many of the female weightlifters wore earrings and make up. Some of them were very attractive IMO. Some of the male weightlifters shaved their pits. Trust me when I say that there is NO advantage in weightlifting to shave anything.

The tight goggles combined with the tight swim caps causes this wicked furrowing of the brow that makes them look p&ssed off and ready for competition. It's an intimidation thing.

For what it's worth, there's no point in being aerodynamic in water.

Hydrodynamic, on the other hand, is a plus.

lol.  I thought it was going to be about bagging one workout, then bagging the next one for good measure.
