Subject: Obama = Grover Cleveland?

Was just thinking about what Obama would do if he weren't re-elected (and please let's not make this a thread about the likelihood of that happening or not).  He's pretty young and active, I just don't see him falling into the elder statesman/philanthropic works roles that GHWB and Bill Clinton have settled into.

Does anyone think he'd pull a Cleveland and run again in 2016?

Anyone up for a replay of Obama vs. Hillary in the Dem primary?  (and how would that conversation about Benghazi go?)

I just don't see it happening in this day and age. Now, once you've been defeated for high office, you're kind of done. It becomes to hard to build a base, raise money and get people excited about your prospects.

Clinton went out riding a good economy (we can debate the reasons for that) and still relatively popular. People recall his presidency fondly because they were feeling good in their wallets about that time. That would not be the case for Obama.

heh heh heh.  all depends on what happens next.  these could be the 'good ole' days'.

But to answer the OP's question.  yeah- he's still young, vibrant and a visionary.  I don't know what he'll do- but I doubt he'll be disappearing.  He may go back to being a community activist... except this time his 'community' will be 3 billion people.

I doubt it. Al Gore faded away from the limelight after he was elected in 2000.

he'll probably go international.  As in push for global progressive initiatives.  He'll certainly have a much bigger platform than just local community stuff, so I imagine he'd go work on the "global community" with progressive issues such as helping the poor, access to healthcare, and environmental issues.

He'll do the same thing the other recent former presidents are doing.  Start collecting his kickbacks from all the companies that directly beneffited from his policies during his tenure.  Join the speaking circuit making six figures per speech.

You guys are still bitter about that one huh?

The whole "never behind in any recounts" still doesn't suffice for you?

Oh, and Grover Obama?

I honestly don't see Hillary running again.  So if that happens, I could see Obama trying to pull a Grover...

Love the Benghazi comment...

Obama and Clinton strike a deal. He supports her for Pres and after she wins, she appoints him to the Supreme Court.

I'm still loving the idea of Bill & Hillary campaigning against Obama, especially Bill:

"You know, I said all along that Hillary would have been a better choice in 2008 ..."

"Obama was so bad, even I couldn't help him get re-elected..."

Sorry, that would be a global organizer. Or perhaps he could go back to the Senate and actually do something?
