Subject: RE: LongHorn Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Festival : Official Threadpaceman82203 - 2010-06-03 10:36 AM Any advice on bike shipping? I have not shipped my bike before. I contacted the official race bike shop and they suggested just having a local bike shop pack it in a cardboard box that new bikes come in - sounds a bit sketchy - don't want it to arrive and not have a working bike. Any advice? BTW: The bike shop listed on the race site does not have the Austin HIM listed on their event site. I contacted them via email - but no reply. Who do I contact in regard to bike shipping options? Depending what airline you take, the baggage check fee may be cheaper than shipping (it also may be a LOT more ). Southwest is one of the best - $50. I think one airline does a special deal if you're traveling for an official Ironman race too (Delta maybe, but not sure ). Either way the shop packed box is fine, and I've shipped like this a few times. If you want, there are hard shell bike boxes too (performance.com has some good/cheaper ones ). I got mine there on sale and with a coupon there for a little over $150. |
