Online tax services are great, it took about 15 mins to fill everything out and file. Now I have about 400 dollars to spend. I wonder what I need, maybe a ipod nano???

I'm boring, too.  I would use it to pay off debt or invest it. Neither is an option for me, though, this year.  I actually have to pay for the first time.

Those things are okay... so long as you are paying off the debt from the last bike you purchased, or investing in a new set of wheels,

Mine were done 1 month ago and I already have my refund!

I'm studying taxation and accounting right now as part of my career change.

Can't beat an accounting degree. If only I'd realized I had an interest in it when I was in college the first time.

latest news is it is #5 on the top paid jobs "out of college." as long as you arent a weirdo, you should get offers (if you apply) to all 4 firms.

i too swayed away. liked it in HS, and then ran off and joined the army. a number of years later.... here i be!

There are only 4 firms? Just kidding! I plan to apply to the big four firms, but I will also take a shot at the many mid-sized regional firms in the bay area. I too got sidetracked in the army for 6 years. Loved it, but was I ready to go when my enlistment was done.

Me personally I don’t want to work for the big 4; I don’t want to in 5 years be an expert in depreciating off shore oilrigs. For me it’s about the mid-firms, get well rounded, so I could move into a controller, and then CFO.

What school are you going to?

I'm currently in the MS in Taxation program at Golden Gate University.

Frankly, I'm not sold on any one firm specifically, but decided I'll give them all a shot. Although, given my age and my personality, I suspect I'd enjoy a mid-sized firm or even going in-house to be more to my liking.

Where were all of you great accountants at when I had my taxes done. All I got from the IRS were self-employment taxes and 4900 dollars owed. So much for the new bike this year, and the cruise, and groceries.
