Subject: RE: ANYONE RACING THIS WEEK?HOLY CRAP ya! Ok...I actually thought the "along the shore" segment of the rectangle swim route was the hardest because I kept rocking from side to side. I actually started to get a wee bit sea sick. The part swimming out to sea was not too bad and the part towards the lighthouse seemed strangly easier than swimming "with" the waves. I did two laps in about 52 minutes compared to my normal 1.2 miles time is usually about 38 minutes. The bike route, excuse me, sucked!!! Cracks, bad road repair jobs, speed bump type bumps and YES railroad tracks. Holy cow. Two laps of that had me feeling the pain in my neck. The thing I kept thinking was that I had seen several "LaPorte county bikeways" signs which leads me believe it must be a "bike friendly commuity" and there MUST be better roads somewhere. What about the steep downhill with a 90 degree turn with mud and sand at the bottom? I thought the volunteers did a great job warning people ahead of time to go slow...actually at several intersetions.....except one.....a teenager had gotten back in her car and when she saw me coming, she stayed in her car and I went the wrong way until she got out and hollered at me. And was that a nuclear reactor? That's what I called it, but I don't really know. The run route I think would have been a little better for me mentally if they had left it as an out and back because when I got to the transition area only to have to turn around and do it again, it was hard.....I know...HTFU...... Well, I finished.....it wasn't pretty or fast, but I finished......won my age group, but I think was the only one in my age group.......my husband says not to look at it that way. I would conside doing it again if they change the bike route. |
