Subject: RE: Desert classic duathlon.... anyone????I've done this race the last 2 years, and could never figure out why no BT peeps ever seemed interested in this race before. Maybe conflicted with RAGNAR? It's quite fun, both runs are mostly trail and the ride is rolling hills on the roads around McDowell Mountain Park. The second run has a super gnarly (but not very long) hill. The first run is WAY faster than a typical tri run and the second run is really painful. As far as bike courses go, this course is 50 times better than the TTL courses I'm used to in the Phx area. Only one U turn! There are usually some major pros at this race. I think last year I saw Joanna Zeiger and Simon Whitfield was there the year before. I believe Sam McGlone did this race the year before that. The parking situation isn't the greatest....you park a long way from the start/finish which isn't a big deal for athletes, but it's kind of a pain for families with young kids. The only other kind of negative thing last year was they used these racks where you stick your bike wheel into a specific slot rather than a more generic location hanging from a bar. It seems like a good idea until the first person puts their wheel in the wrong slot, well that means that everyone behind ends up putting theirs in one slot over, the last person in is SOL. I saw 2 people completely freaking out because they had no slot to rack their bike at T2....not really a big deal just giving you all the info I can think of. I think I'm in for this race again. |
