Subject: Back by popular demand-another 56 or 112 mile ride!

Due to the overwhelming success of our last ride in May, there is interest in another semi-organized century ride.  Here are the details.

The date of the ride is July 25. Once again we’ll meet at Alum Creek beach and ride the Fat Rabbit HIM course. Again, you may ride one loop (56 miles) or two (112 miles). We’ll meet at 7:30 and get started at 8:00am, sharp.

Once again, this is a self supported century ride. Bring all of your nutrition and fluids with you on the ride. There is no place stop and get water during the ride. We will stop back at the beach for 15-20 minutes to give people a chance to refill water bottles and use the bathroom.

On our last ride the first loop took us just over three hours to complete. That’s a pace of 18MPH. We were able to achieve this by taking turns pulling the peloton. Assume that we’ll be traveling at a similar speed for this ride. Drafting is expected and encouraged.

This ride is scheduled three weeks out from the Great Buckeye Challenge and about 6 weeks out from the Toyota Challenge. It will be a great tune up ride for either of these races. Those who have not gone 56 or 112 miles in training yet, this will be a great opportunity to get some miles in with a group to help you along.

My wife will be riding that day. So ladies, don’t think you’ll be the only female there. This ride is open to all who can make the distance.

I’ll direct you to the first post in this thread to get an idea of what else to expect.

I
hope to see you all there!

This is perfect, thank you!  I was just planning to participate in Eddy's corn field ride- 50 mile effort.  Looks like the $30 bucks will just go for gas!

So that being said, unless something changes, I'll be the first to say I'm in!

Let me specify a little, I'm in for one loop- 56, That in itself will push my limits.

(-the wife)

Question:
Since this is a drafting ride, but we are all triathletes, is it recommended that we bring our road bikes or our tri bikes? I imagine we are going to be drafting each other, but not riding 2 inches apart, right?

I have a 3-hour ride in my schedule for that day, which would be one loop, but I am contemplating doing two loops. I may decide that day, depending on how I feel.

Bring your tri bike. We're triathletes after all.  (Besides, you'd probably strangle me in the night if I said you couldn't ride your shiny new wheels. ) I tend to stay out of aero unless I'm leading the pack or on a long, flat stright-away.

Yeah, I would love too... but my in-laws are coming into to town for the day... but I don't know the timing. That is why it is a maybe.... got to keep the wife and in-laws happy.

I can't make this ride because I am doing the Columbus Challenge Tri the next day, but I am interested in doing a 56 mile ride before the end of the summer.

Please post again if you decide to schedule another ride in Aug/Sept.

thanks,
Cliff

I could definitely be in.  I have got - GOT - to up my mileage.  The most I've done lately is like 22 or 19.  I know it's stupid to move my mileage up that much, but I've gone straight from 12-24 with ease.  I'm not saying it'll be easy, but I'm willing to try.

I'd just need a copy of the course 'cause I'll be BOP for sure.

I'm doing East Fork the following weekend and was planning on possibly training on that course this Saturday, but it'd probably just be another 12 mile ride for me and, like I said, I have got to start pushing toward more miles.

Decisions, decisions...

So far we have

Allright, we'll forgive you, this time. But only because of the 30 rock reference.

Shintri, we are still a-go. Tri-husker (Tim) may or may not be joining us as well. See you in the morning.

LOL.  That's awesome!  I use that word all the time and no one's picked up on it.  Hope you guys had a great time today and that the rain stayed away.  It has done NOTHING but pour down here in Highland County!

Yeah, it rained all day here in Central Oh too. 4 of us showed up, but we decided to 86 it due to the rain and thunder.
