Anyone signed up for this one? Did 4 laps of the bike course last night and the new asphalt at the top is awesome, no more potholes!

Seriously considering this race...
In the process of getting my wetsuit.. have been using a rental suit and training at Sasamat Lake a couple of times..
Road the 'loop' on Thursday with a good friend that is tapering for IMC next weekend.. definitely a nicer ride with the new asphalt...

Are you racing this event? Sprint or Oly?

We probably passed each other on the road Thursday. I was the guy riding the Cervelo P2.
I'm doing the bike portion for the Olympic Relay race. Our team (KVOS T.V.) was doing great last year until I crashed on the bike and put us out. Hoping to redeem myself this year. What distance are you thinking of doing?

Olympic Triathlon = 1.5km
Sprint Triathlon = 750m

The swim will be held in English Bay on the shore of Second Beach. The expected water temperature is 17degrees Celcius and air temp 21degrees (current water temperature is 19 degrees). Wetsuits are suggested and the provided swim caps must be worn. Lifeguards on paddleboards, and volunteers in motorboats and canoes/kayaks will patrol the swim course. The Olympic event will consist of two(2), 750m laps (a beach run to begin the second). The Sprint event will be 1 lap. All waves will start with a beach run. Olympic athletes will have to exit the water to start their second lap. Please ensure you are on the beach 10 minutes prior to your race start time.

I know - believe me, I had the same reaction... though with a LOT more curse words!

I'll be in Chicago - so I don't know if that's as fulfilling or not, but I've already talked with the race director, and they have very, very graciously agreed to let me defer my entrance fee to next year!

Hey Riel...

Good chance we did see one another on the Stanley Park ring-road.. I was playing attempt to keep up with the riding partner for my ride!! Only people I really remember from the ride were the guy on "the" hill and his riding partner waiting near the exit to the Lions Gate Bridge

Awesome swim last night at Sasamat... and am heading up to Ironman this weekend!!!

Still sitting on the distance fence for Vancouver.. Know I can comfortably do the Sprint Wondering if I should live on the edge and try the Oly?!

That was a wet one! Pretty happy with my relay team bike time, at least I managed to keep the wheels facing down this year. Should have worn my wetsuit instead of my bib shorts and jersey though.
I too was impressed with the amount of spectators and supporters that came out to cheer and watch in the rain. Kudos to all of the volunteers also.

That was an amazing experience! If I can swim, ride, and run in that I can do it in anything. I was frozen at the end, and I mean frozen.  I ripped my toe very badly in the swim (running into the water) and had no idea (underside of the toe) until I took my shoes off to change and get warm at the end of the race.

Now signed on as myself, we will try this again!

Like you guys all said, what a wet and cold day! That swim start needs carpet laid out over all the rocks and broken shells for my tender little footsies! Riel, that was pretty fun riding with you, I think catching back up to you after loosing my chain killed my race. I was way low on energy for the run. I had to sit at one point due to being so dizzy! Horrible race for me. Good job to you guys that trudged through to the end! See you around!

best quote of the race: "If this is 17 degrees, I'll eat my wetsuit!"

I was the last man across the finish line. Apparently the one guy I beat last year, the one I passed twice on the bike course as he was walking his bike up the hill, decided against racing this year. I'm either going to have to get faster or offer to pay his entry fee next year again. DFL is no fun.

No problem. I plan to do it next year, so last place is now reserved...

Oh, this made me chuckle. I think maybe I should do this one next year. I'd at least be beside you! Well done ... YOU FINISHED ... and so many didn't even show up ... pat yourself on the back!!!!

PS I woulda been there but I missed the whole triathlon season ... tripped over a root while running 2 weeks before the HIM at Elk Lake in June and tore all the hamstring tendons off my left ... um ... butt. Had surgery on June 14 to reattach 'em, and was told 6 months to recovery. WELL I have a 10Km race coming up this weekend, which I will SLOWLY do, and I'm signed up for the Victoria Half Marathon on Oct 10 ... NEXT year I will NOT take my eyes off the path at Beaver Lake and WILL do more races. Congrats to everyone who finished this race and had a good season 'cause they were able to race!

I'm a rookie to the Vancouver Triathlon, I here that Jericho Beach is an awesome event and I like the coarse. I live in Port Coquitlam so getting my gear out to UBC is a challenge along with my training, coaching certs, working at Westwood Cycle and fitting coarses my time is extremely limited. Is there a climb in the Tri-Cities area that compares to the Van Tri? I'll be competing on the Sprint distance. Thank you for your assistance!

You can try going yup Gaglardi to SFU, perhaps. It's longer, but that's probably  good thing. It's what I plan to do to get ready when I can ride again.

I would just pedal my bike out along Barnett and through Vancouver to Stanley park and do the course that way. If that is your A race for next year then there is nothing better than KNOWING the road that you are going to be racing on. For that matter, any race you do you should ride the course, just my 2 cents. Its not much more than 30 mins to get to the park from the tricities. Provided you have a hammer in your shorts!
