Can any of you recommend one that's small and lightweight enough? Right now, my account is with Cingular/AT&T, but I can always switch if I need to. Thanks for the help! |

X2 (I think mine is actually the L6 but is basically the same thing), fits in my camelbak or my handheld bottle holder. |

After destroying an LG during a marathon, I got on of these... you would never think that throwing water over your neck to cool down that you are drenching your phone (okay... maybe *I* would never think)... heehee |

So I wonder if there are small, lightweight cellphones that are also *waterproof*? ;-) I guess that's probably too much to ask... |

Member 50![]() ![]() Santa Barbara, CA | Subject: RE: Cell phone for jogging?fellow diabetic here! I always wear a Road ID for rides and runs, and i bring my phone (nokia6126) and snacks on rides (camelbak). Like you, I would love to have a smaller phone option for long runs. Anyway, thanks for posting, its good to know other diabetics are making this lifestyle work. Edited by psycladybug 2007-08-19 3:59 PM |

When I was at school, I would go without it, but I always told people where I was going/ how far I was going. On long run days, Id run in loops, making sure to pass by my apartment before going on the next loop and ring the doorbell to let my roomie know I was OK. when I lived in Belfast, I didn't always have that same sort of availability (roomies went home a lot and weren't in the dorm all the time), so I bought a bum bag (the word "fanny pack" is hillarious!) that had a neat waterbottle holder and a cell phone holster. I figured it would be easier to call 999 that way or to call a cab if I needed to if I had it. I think it cost me 18 pound? and came with a water bottle. and it was neat and reflective! and it had places to put glucose tabs...and CD's...and money in case I needed an OJ on the run...can ye tell I'm a bit paranoid? During highschool i used to run with those white glucose tab packets in my socks b/c my mom wouldn't let me leave for a run without it. although i was reluctant at the time, now i get it. Low blood sugars can be dangerous and scary, its best to be over prepared. I always carry a Gu with me now. They work sooo fast. kerry Edited by psycladybug 2007-08-19 9:58 PM |

Ugggh, have you ever tried the glucose gel? Imagine eating vaseline, and that's it. It's just plain old not nice. Gu, hammergel, Sport Beans and OJ are my best friends. |

As for the glucose gel...yea I've had to use it back in the day when I my diabetes was a little out of control. Its gross, but it works well if you have a seizure (no chewing required). Now that I know about Gu vanilla bean (yum), I plan on stock piling both for tri training and blood sugar emergencies. OJ works fast, but its very acidic and can make me throw up if I have it too close to working out. I've never tried sport beans...what are they? they sound weird. kerry |

Member 18 | Subject: RE: Cell phone for jogging?x2 on the Pantech c300 - it's trash. I have a Samsung A717. Great phone. AT&T provider. I also carry it in a baggy when I run. But it would probably fit in one of those iPod arm bands as well. |

They're pretty tasty too, but sometimes they can be too sweet. http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=6000105&subcategory=600... |

I've been using the gels, but it seems they're not super fast for me, though maybe I'm just impatient, LOL. Edited by krludwig 2007-08-20 1:24 PM |

At least that is what my brother and I figured was the opposite of "fanny pack". |

Don't really want to be carrying a $600 item that could get smashed if I trip on a curb. Also don't really want something that bounces around like a brick -- I can get that now with my Treo. ;-) OTOH, if Apple comes out with the rumored iPhone Nano, I just might have to bite: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/09/iphone-nano-rumors-heating-up-de... ;-) Edited by krludwig 2007-08-20 11:26 PM |
