I'd like to get in a couple of open water swims before the Leamington race. I usually do some swimming at Cedar Creek beach this time of year, but I have not been out yet. Ayone else out there who is doing Leamington or Loaring who would like to meet for a swim in the next week?

I am not sure where cedar creek beach is located. I am in east windsor. Sat. morning is good. I can only make evenings during the week. pick the day and time and we will try and make it.

How about Wed June 11th, Cedar Beach at 7:30 pm. Cedar Beach is west of Kingsville off of Heritage Road. 515 Cedar Beach Road.

Wednesdays are usually not good for me and it will be a couple of days before I know if I'm free next Wednesday. How about the weekend as Idrtim suggested?

To get to Cedar Creek beach take hwy. #3 to Essex, south on Arner town line (#23?), east on county rd. #20, and then south on McCain to the lake. It's not a great beach but it has changing rooms and the conditions are similar to the Leamington and Loaring races.

I am new to this and do not have a wetsuit yet. I just looked at the water temps - 68 degrees. Anyone swim at these temps without a suit? I may be waiting a few weeks.

It will be chilly swimming without a wetsuit. Are you doing any early summer races and do you plan on swimming without a wetsuit for them? If so you may as well get some practice in now.

Just as an aside, I swam Milton a couple of weeks ago, and the water temp (61) certainly called for a wetsuit. However, the Try a Tri'ers were out there baring it all in their speedos and such, and most survived.

My buddy decided to sign up last minute (race day), and showed up with nothing but his speedo, my 1980's road bike, (plus gear) and a pair of running shoes. We were in the same AG category and I picked a spot over to the side when our wave was going to start - all I heard were people taking about how either - brave, hardcore, crazy, etc. this guy was.

Well, he manned up and swam the 750M, did the bike and run and only finished 12 minutes behind me.

Moral of the story - the water temp is not going to kill you, and you may even swim faster just to gte the hell out of there.

The newsletter for Milton early in the week had the temperature at 61 I believe, but I'm pretty sure that the announcer on race day said that it was 66. I was hanging around the try-a-tri transition area when they came out of the water and some of them were pretty shocked by the water temperature. The rescue boats were kept pretty busy pulling try-a-triers out of the water and ferrying them back to shore. I think that cold water has much more of an effect on novices as they are already stressed and its harder to keep calm and control your breathing in cold water.

There is also a safety issue. I think that the guy who drowned at the Guelph Lake tri a few years ago would still be here if he had been wearing a wetsuit.

I have a QR that I used for about 4 seasons. It has a small tear in one leg and some of the seams could use some glue. I think that I weighed 177 when I bought it. Try it and make me an offer if you like it.

It was Guelph Lake I, 3 or 4 years ago. It was on the Saturday but I can't remember if it was the try-a-tri or the sprint.

The main reason that I need to get out there is to get use to the cold on my face and learn how to relax and swim. I will be wearing a wetsuit too.

I read a very good article this week that said that they call a 'warm up' before a race, it does NOT mean that they want you to do some front crawls but rather to 'warm up' to the water.

You can rent Wetsuits for $30 at the Windsor Running Factory. I hope you will come!
