I know it's still a way off, but I'm getting excited. It's my first tri and I'm hoping to meet some other BTers there. Anyone else going. Any advice or tips for the course out there?

I'm hoping to get an OWS in out there beforehand - it'll be my first OWS too, since I missed the one on my training program. I might even drive out to Port Stanley and have swim there. Big lake - very scary. I'm not sure why, though. I grew up swimming at Port, although I did always believe a monster lurked at the bottom when you can't touch and it gets really cold quickly when you put your toes down there....I HATE that part...

Best to all that are going!

Cindy

Hey Cindy,

Lakeside is a great venue, they cap the entries so it's a small race and it's always well organized. It's a small lake so suffers none of the big open water problems. You'll have a blast :-)

Hi Cindy,
Lakeside is a great choice for a first tri. In my opinion its the best overall tri in Ontario - great family friendly venue, relaxed and laid back atmosphere... Between me, my wife and son we've completed 7 Lakeside races in the last 3 years.

The lake is good for an OWS becasue its small and has no chop but it does have 'sea weeds'. These string up to about 3 feet from the surface. Occasionaly you may touch one if your arm reaches way down. They are completly harmless and I even like them becasue it gives me something to look at while swimming (i'm always looking and trying to spot a fish or a pretty mermaid).

Good luck. I'm plannin gto be there this year again
Cheers,
Mark

I'm contemplating this one ... any idea when it will fill?  It's just a bit of a drive for me ... Can you camp near the site?

I think you can camp on the site, as it's a family resort/day use facility normally. Here's the link.

You can camp right on site.  They have a cute little camping resort and the lake/beach is beautiful.  I raced the try-a-tri last year and will be doind the sprint this year.  My DS is also doing the kids of steel race.

Hope to see you there Cindy and Mark.

I am planning on doing this one as well, it will be my 4th.  The 3rd on from the HSBC series and they have all been very well organized and such a friendly atmosphere... I figure it will be a great way to end the season.

To the OP... do your best to get as much OWS experience as you can.  My first tri I thought I was prepared for the OWS as I spent all my summers waterskiing and such... but between wearing a wetsuit for the first time (that didnt fit) and the mass start it was an overwhelming experience.  I still dont know how I survived... lol

I am doing the shorter Saturday sprint 600m, 20k, 4k. There is a longer sprint on the Sunday which is just called "triathlon" as opposed to sprint and it's 750m, 30k, 7.5k. I just checked the website and Give-it-a-Tri on the Sunday is now sold out, but the others are not as of yet.

The GT is sold out and I think there are about 50 or so spots left in each of the other races before they cap out as well. I'm racing on the Sunday but might come down for the Sat race as well to help out and cheer people on. If BTers want to arrange a meeting place let me know and I'll try and arrange to have a small tent set up or something.

Could you get out to lakeside for a swim in the lake there before the race.  I think they charge $3 or $4 (can't remember), but it might be worthwhile if you are close enough.  The waves in Lake Erie might freak you out more than necessary.

I did lakeside I this year for the first time.  Great venue!  which distance are you doing?  I was going to do II, but my cousin in getting married in the Sault that weekend.

I'm doing triathlon on Sunday.  Did it last year too.  I like this event because it stretches out the tri season longer.  Always sad to have the season end.  Been a great year!   After September 20th.....lots of hockey!!!! (my off season training activity)  Good luck to all next weekend....we will pray for dry and warm weather.

Well, I'll make a sign in case there's no BT tent...

Good luck to everyone. I can't tell you how nervous I am. I had a dream the other night that I didn't wake up in time to go.

Jyles16, travelling 12 hours for this race. Wow, you must really enjoy it.

I live in Toronto, heading to St. Catharines to borrow my mom's van and driving there on the Saturday, then I am racing the sprint tri on Sunday.  Not sure yet where I will stay and am definitely up for meeting up with any other athletes as I think I'll be coming alone!

Good luck to every one!!!

I hurt my IT band and am glad I put off registering.  I am also glad its sold out or I would probably still try and do it as I am feeling a little better today and would probably destroy myself in the race...

Wish I could be there!!!!

What a great race!! I can see why everyone loves that venue. The felt warm even thought it was only 66. Probably because it was only 50 air temp. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet any of you.

I heard of only one upset, that a lady was assisted out of the water shortly after her wave started.
