Extreme Veteran 665 Vancouver, British Columbia | Subject: Which race should I do? I had so much fun at the Sprint that now it's time for race shopping, setting new goals ect.... I am looking to do my first Olympic distance triathlon this summer. What are your thoughts on the different races in the area? I have heard a lot about the Squamish triathlon. I am also contemplating the Vancouver Subaru Sprint that coincides with the half ironman, but some of my funding has been cut so I may have to skip it. Love to hear your opinions. Jeni |

Updated 17 March 2006 I am assuming you've seen this list? I was thinking of doing the Subaru Sprint...but have decided to do the Vancouver Sprint on Sept 1st instead. (assuming I can rehab this darn quad of mine!) and obviously, I have no personal experience about any of the courses/events - but just thought I would throw this list your way in case you hadn't seen it. Jeni I heard really good things about the Squamish race as well. I did the Cresent beach OLY in White Rock and had a lot of fun. Lots of hills for a crazy hill eater like you!!! |

Expert 1110 Pitt Meadows, BC | Subject: RE: Which race should I do? I did the Vancouver Sprint as my first - the one on the long weekend in September that goes around Stanley Park. Great race, tons of fun and I'd recommend it as well. I did Cultus Lake last year and will do it again this year. Again, a great race IMO, but not if you hate cold water!! |

(hey, they would get the added bonus of getting their 'green card' if they married you!) I have another friend who has already said to me - 'why couldn't I have found someone like you did' (she is married to a real LOSER - can't keep a job - blows her money on rec. drugs....plays video games all day, etc, etc - and he has recently cheated on her too! - all while she went to UBC to be a teacher and is now working 'supporting' them. but she doesn't have enough self-esteem to leave him (believe me, I have tried to get her to!). anyway - I do have a good guy - even though I am not thrilled with the amount of travelling he needs to do for his work (he gets back in just a bit after being away for 6 out of the past 8 weeks!).... but nobody promised me 'everything'. But a few short weeks ago I said to him - honey....I think I want to try some triathlons this year....and I don't think my bike will be good enough (knowing full well - that a new bike wasn't a necessity for the first year...just a 'want') - when he was back home for a bit between jobs - he bought me a brand new bike (not super high end...but certainly more than good enough) just because I had this 'whim' to try triathaons. He is super proud of me....and tells people all the time now that his wife is training for triathlons! sorry to go off on a tangent....It would be neat to meet someone who also does tris jeni - because they would fully understand and you could train with them too (I wish my husband would be willing to learn to run so he could run with me occasionally). Extreme Veteran 665 Vancouver, British Columbia | Subject: RE: Which race should I do? Ugh! The Vancouver Subaru Race is the same day as Squamish! Decisions, decisions. But I love riding in Stanley park so am leaning towards the Vancouver Triathlon in September, but its such a long ways away.... anyone else find it nerve racking to declare what races you are going to do and then to actually sign up? A bit of a "holy"s**t- now I actually have to do it!" It took me forever to get the guts to tell anybody i was even thinking of doing the UBC sprint and waited til practically the last day to sign up.

Well, I have a job..shift work, and some days, will be looking to ride for longer rides see, and I do not have people to ride with, so if you don't mind travelling, I could meet you say fort langley, and we could ride the hills and stuff around get it.... Extreme Veteran 665 Vancouver, British Columbia | Subject: RE: Which race should I do? Hurray for days that are free. I'm spoiled. My professor is my sugar daddy. I get paid to go to grad school but I don't have classes. Thesis writing for the next few months= my own schedule. For me the challenge is getting to Langley from UBC as I don't have a car. But Dan, I'm definitly up for it! |

But Dan, I'm definitly up for it! I've got a car with a bike rack (although the ski rack is on it right now....but will likely be switching it back after we get back from whistler next week).... I could drive us both out Jeni - I lived in Langley from gr. 4-12 - so I know how to get to Ft. Langley (although not the exact area very well anymore). As long as I am back in Vancouver by 3'ish - if my dh is intown and can do the afterschool pick up then I have more time....is that even enough time? I can leave Vancouver as early as 8:30 am... jeni - of course you could always just RIDE out to Ft. Langley first to meet up for a ride! ;-P Jill
