I'm going to be doing this one as my first ever tri. Is anyone else doing it? Any advice for a newbie?

still thinking about it.

#1 piece of advice I was given before my first...HAVE FUN! "race day" is NOT about racing, it is a celebration of all of the hard work and dedication you put forth to get there.

I'll be there. This should be a great race. As for advice, have a good time, race hard and welcome to the addiction. I am still a newb myself. This will be my 4th race.

I'll be there....I did it last year, as well.  It is really fun.  The course is pretty flat with just one hill each way on the bike, and the run is on a trail cut in the grass of the state park so may be a little challenging if you are only used to pavement.  BuDu puts on great races and they usually give away a lot of swag afterward.  They don't close the road to cars during the ride, so passing can get a little tricky, but shouldn't be a problem if you are careful, like I know you all are!    I like this race since it's just a few miles from my house.

Advice for newbies:  If you have a chance to ride the course, you may find it to your advantage, but as I said, there are just two hills total and they are not huge by any means.  The swim is short, in a rectangle around the already-roped off swim area.  I don't know if a wetsuit will help since it is pretty fast and removing it may take away the time you would have saved.  It seems like the swim waves weren't crowded or violent like some races I have been in....if they do the swim in the same place as last year, you have to run up the beach a ways in the sand to transition, so be prepared for that.

Good luck and I am sure there will be lots of BTers there to talk to before and after.  That's really my favorite part!

Nope, but I am doing the Lake Samish Triathlon the week before - which is why I opened this thread in the first place.  <goes off to work on reading comprehension>

I just signed my little family up! Looking forward to this race. Budu puts on such well-organized events. This is going to be my 6th race...and one of the last of my first tri season...

I signed up yesterday. It looks like the swim and transition areas are in a different spot from the Arbor Schools race but the bike and run course are the same?

Yes, I think they use different beaches for swimming--the first parking lot is where the Sammamish one was last year, and I think the Issaquah tri used the beach at the second parking lot.  Otherwise it is pretty much exactly the same.

See ya there, I need to sign up, though!!

^^^ What she said. Though this year they were going to reverse the swim so you come out of the water on the soft sand instead of the rocks (counter-clockwise swim direction).

BUMP

Where should the BTers meet up--either before or after (or both)??  I know the bathroom lines are gonna be long, we could meet there (just kidding....or am I?).  My little sister has signed up to do the race, having not ridden her bike in 2 years or been serious about swimming.  She'd better not beat me, that's all I'm sayin'!  This is my home course!!

Good luck to all!

I would really like to meet up with any BTers. Meeting before would be great, otherwise I'm so slow I'll miss everyone!

I don't know the park very well so I really can't suggest a place. Its your turf Medusa Ann, so you make a suggestion.

Let's have a BT meetup around 6:35 (so freakin' early!!!) on the wall above the beach where the swim starts.  I am race number 388/purple cap so you can also find me at my rack.  I don't swim until wave 8, so I will have some hanging around time once the race starts to chat up any other late-starters!  I'll have my Zoot full suit on at race time, otherwise will wear my tri hippos shirt (black with hot pink hippos on it) and you can find me that way.  Pic of me in the shirt below.

Awesome! I'm number 213/white. I'll be in wave four so I can chat for a bit. I look forward to meeting all of the BTers there.

Sounds good. I am # 179 and starting in wave 4. Not sure what I'll be wearing at 6:30, possibly  a ski jacket and wool hat.  I am pumped for this! When I started training this was to be my first tri. If I miss meeting someone in the morning , have a great race!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. I am #24 and starting in wave 1. If you see a guy chasing his 2 little boys around after the race, that will be me. It looks like the weather should be perfect.

I'll also be chasing two little boys after the race...they will probably have their Team Javelin (orange/black) racing shirts on, if it isn't too cold!

Good luck tomorrow everyone. I am too sick to race.

If you know of anyone who wants to buy one or two spots, please contact Deanna at Budu Racing. She is amazing and is letting us credit some of this to Flowing Lake because my fiancee and I are too sick to race.

Let's help her out by getting people to take our spot!

Fun race yesterday!  All the BTers I saw did really well!  Lilia (devotchkatata) got 3rd AG and Marcus (snailfish) got 4th Clydesdale!  I got 2nd Athena, but most importantly, I beat my sister!!

Yep, just checked the site and they've changed some standings...I guess I was first, as was Lilia!  Awesome job everyone!
