I'm doing this race for the first time this year and getting excited! I have heard it is a great race.  Anyone have any comments/tips on the course, etc?  My first half was Timberman 2 years ago.  Hoping this bike course is a little more forgiving :)

Patriot was my first half two years ago, and I'm doing it again this June. It's a nice venue, nice sized field, and the bike and run courses are not too difficult. There are some rolling hills, but no real climbs on the course. Check out the race reports to find out more about the race, and if you have any specific questions, post them.

I did (sorta) Patriot last June, and it was great fun. Well organized, swim in a giant WARM lake, bike had no major hills, and was interesting. Sady, I was a DNF due to a bike crash (!!!), but will be back this June to finish some unfinished business.

Anyone remember the hotel right near the restaurant where we met for dinner? I'm looking to secure a room, but don't recall what the place was. The one next to/behind the auto dealer is the one I'm thinking of.

Thanks!!

Just saw this map of the bike course someone had put up on MapMyRide.

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2946845

Is this for real?  it shows no hills whatsoever, but the course description said rolling hills?  Since it's two loops, according to the mapmyride course, it's still less than 200ft of total elevation gain, over 56 miles.  That's close to flat as a pancake...

Another question.  I just did a little tri down in florida, where i encountered the term "florida hills", where you could be going for miles with a strong headwind. Feels very much like a real hill, except I have experienced very few hills that go on for miles!  Have there been similar headwinds in this course in the past, for those who have done it?  Or is it really a flat, fast course?

The Patirot Half will be my first 70.3 distance as well. Into my 4th year of tris. Started racing/training as a weight loss solution and got hooked. Made it thru my first year as a clydesdale, dropped some weight, gained some speed and had some good results as an AG'er the past two years. With family and work, I have focused on sprints, doing my first olympic last summer. Jumping into the half-distance to see if I like it. Looking forward to the June race!

I'm in for this race. In way over my head!

This is my first half and my goal is just to complete it in the allowed time. My swim is solid but that is about it.

The bike course isn't quite as flat as that link shows - here's my file from two years ago. And the run too.

Thanks for those links Nate... I'm doing this one as my first Half this year too.  The sneak peek from your links is encouraging.  Nice pace on both by the way...

Just read the water temp in Long Pond is a 'refreshing' 62 as of Saturday.

Also, anyone up for a BT'er dinner at the Fireside Grilll the night before the race? We did this last year, and it was fun, and apparently its been a tradition of sorts for a few years. If you let me know, I'll make a reservation as we get closer. The restaurant is right near the 2 recommneded race hotels, so its a short drive if you're staying there.

UUUHHHGGG!!

Just sent off my email to the race director having to finalize my injury decision and have requested to switch over to the aquabike category! I have been on the edge of injury and pain for more than 2 months and Karma has dropped the hammer on me! Have been dealing with severe tibial stress syndrome with the possibility of a stress fracture on both legs! Advice from my physician---NO running for 5 to 6 weeks! I have just taken off 2 and 1/2 weeks from running and along with 2 weeks of physical therapy, tried a shorter "TEST" run yesterday..........not good. Could barely make it over 2 miles and had to stop! Legs aren't ready yet.

I was trying to convince myself mentally that over the next few weeks things will work themselves out with the running issues, but physically it doesn't look like it will happen. Better for me to do the aquabike only, HEAL, and that will give me a chance to come back to do other events this summer. Totally bummed since this was to be my first Half.

Luckily my swim and bike are totally on course, and cause no pain while performing! I still have another 3 to 4 weeks to get in some hard swim/bike sessions prior to June 15th!

Regardless, I am still looking forward to the whole overall atmosphere of the event and its excitement!!

Just putting this out there again. Did this last year, and it was a great time. If anyone is interested, let me know. Thanks!

Registration opened at 9:00. Who is in besides me?
This should be a fun race. It will be my second 70.3 and first Patriot. I hear great things about this race.

I just registered as a relay - it'll be my first half iron distance and I need to get a good swim under my belt before I register for one on my own. Figure this is a good one for that - so I'm just swimming that day

Will likely sell out by year end, so says the RD. I just signed up today (at last).

Guess this is the 2014 thread now, too?
