Neither do I!

Eric's company has been on the search for a variety of engineers for a long long time. They're now offering a pretty substantial referral bonus to employees who help fill certain positions.

If you know of any civil or electrical (power) engineers in California/Oregon, Eric would love to hear from them. He needs a new bike.

Not unemployed, and why would I leave the midwest this time of year?

Sounds like there's an imbalance in the whole supply/demand thang we learned in econ.  For the right price, the company could probably find what they're after.

I guess.  Although I keep seeing job postings for other engineering firms in the area as well.  Lots of openings, lots of work, not enough people.

Same problem throughout Canada for the most part.  I need to hire three junior engineers but they all seem to get snapped up by the oil companies out here.

I think part of the problem here is that so many EE students specialize in processors, rather than construction.

Aside from the bonus, I'd like them to hire a couple of people in his dept so he's not working 60 hours anymore.

I'll ask.  I didn't even know they had a San Jose office, which makes me think it's really really small.

They also have a SF office, which is pretty decent sized -- mean, big enough to have a marketing dept and admins.

My hubby is a Civil by education. Because there were NO Engineering jobs available when he graduated (in 94) he went into business management.

There are a ton of great engineers in the Greenville/Spartanburg, SC area, as well as in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot looking for jobs. There is not a huge amount of postings here to correspond to the number graduating each year.

I would tell him to get with the Clemson Alumni Association- on the Clemson dot edu website. There are a wealth of engineers that may be looking for a move out west. I'm sure NC State also has a similar reach.

And Georgia Tech graduates a lot of engineers every year, too. I'm sure you're not looking for newbies out of college, but a lot of folks tend to reside close to where they graduated....

They like newbies out of college.    I think a couple of folks from his office have been making regular trips to campuses out here, recruiting.  That's how he got the job here in the first place.

But I'll certainly let him know to check on graduates from other areas.

Would a BS in Engineering Physics and a BS in Mechancial Engineering from Georgia Tech with about 10 years of Nuclear Experience fit the bill?

I am willing to relocate too.

I dunno.  Send me an email and I'll forward it to Eric.  They do construction consulting and design work.  Right now, he's working on a retro-fit project.  He's also working on a water treatment plant project and various parking structures and maybe a school.  But those are just the projects I hear about coming through the electrical dept.  They have civil and environmental folks there too.  And probably a mechanical or two.

I couldn't find a company name.

I'm a senior civil engineer project manager with 15 year experience.  My company went through some downsizing a couple months back, and instead of transfering back to the midwest, I choose to get laid off.  I just started a new gig about a month ago here in Vegas.  But I'm looking to go out west.

Edit to add:  I don't have a CA P.E., but have one for NV and CO.  Probably can get one for Oregon by reciprocity.  I would have to take the siesmic for CA.

Anything I can look at online?

Wow. Do you really want to stoop to that level?

I'm a chemist too, and we tend to have a friendly little rivalry with the engineers. But I will admit, it's a great time to be an engineer. Lots of opportunities, good money, pretty good job security...
