New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Door County was my first tri event and I had an awesome time. I did the sprint distance on Saturday, the wind was terrible so they had to shorten the swim course by about 100 meters. It was 52 degrees and the 4' waves were tough to handle, so it was interesting, but I made it through. The rest of the event went great and I finished 17th in my age group at 1:27:04. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Pretty nice conditions for the HIM though there was a little chop but not like the day before. The Mrs cranked out a 607 for her first. I ran a bunch of the run course today and its got some nice hills on it. Nice event overall! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, my wife and I enjoyed the great shopping, restaurants, parks, and friendly people. Oh, you mean the triathlon. Well. I sat this year out, and watching people come into the finish really made me wish I could have done it. The swim was crazy, and in all honesty, there were lots of prayers said in my head, as I was certain that someone would go down. It was really bad (and the swim is my strong point). They played it well by shortening the swim so that if you needed to stop, you would be shallow enough that you could stand for the most part. Honestly, they do a REALLY great job of organization. I bet that will become one of the most popular tri's in the midwest. It was attended by 34 states this year. It is also a great boost to the Door County economy, and is very welcome by the community, who realizes that an event like this is very important to them, even if it is somewhat disruptive to their normal traffic flow. When we went into local shops, it (the tri) was almost always a topic of discussion that I heard from someone. We already have our reservations for next year. I can't wait. Mark |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This my third year doing the sprint. I love this race. It is fast and super fun. The atmosphere is great up in DC. I placed 6th in my AG and 11th OA female. So 5 of the top 10 OA Females were in my AG. The competition was fierce!!! Great time all around. |

![]() I'm glad i didn't have to swim in the sprint people's water! The 1/2 iron Sunday was freaky enough for me - i've never looked up and seen huge waves headed on top of me. it was further out and later when our wave started.....proud i made it. my first 1/2 iron distance and it was gorgeous weather!! beautiful course......bike had some nice rolling hills and a few steep ones. The run had some laughable bluffs and obnoxious -sized illinois mansions to gawk at. Wet suit strippers were amazing....a volunteer hugged me at the finish because he knew how emotional it could be (tears). Lots of fun!! |

Manitowoc is a nice, small race. It's my anniversary race that got me into the sport, so I do it every year. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Door County Tri Race Directors do an amazing job of organizing the event - from the event guide, to the maps, to the course marking and wet suit strippers. Having done both Racine and DC, I'd say DC is definitely the more challenging. I did the half IM and the water was a bit choppy. Didn't slow me down too much, but definitely threw me around and had me puking in my mouth when I got on the bike (gross, I know). The bike course starts out on an amazingly smooth road, then throws in some rollers throughout the course. All intersections were well staffed and each mile on the bike course was marked (and appeared accurate). Transition area had ample space and was well guarded (they checked your bib# when you got your bike at the end of the day). Run course is definitely challenging...a couple big climbs including the bluff, but well stocked with water/gatorade. Finish line is well done as well. They had corn on the cob and pork sandwiches, as well as free beer, fruit, etc. We had sunshine the whole day and very little wind. Scenery is excellent and other participants/spectators were all very friendly and helpful. I dropped 2 minutes from my time in '08. It was a good day ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats to everyone! Sounds like a wonderful event. I wish it wasn't the same weekend as SOR. It should be in late August. Someone tell the race directors that, 'k? |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Sundays water was similar to last year. Nothing compared to Saturdays waves. I am glad I did not have to go in the water on Saturday. |
