Subject: Would this be in poor taste?

Hi all, I'm looking for some new cycling jerseys and came across a fallen warrior military remembrance jersey, I've attached a picture of it. I am not, nor have ever been in the military, but I do have a huge respect for those who serve and have served in the past. And a massive respect for those whom have lost their lives serving, so I really like this jersey. I just want to make sure that it wouldn't be in poor taste for someone not in the military to wear the jersey. I feel like I'm simply showing respect to those who are.  I know we have a pretty large number of current and ex military so I figured I would ask here.

Here's a pic of the jersey. One the back it has the helmet, rifle and boots and says "Honor the Fallen" in white.

jersey

Thanks

Tiff

It actually looks pretty cool.

Don't think it's in poor taste. Just national pride!

As an Army vet I have no problem with someone that wasn't in the military wearing that Jersey to honor our Fallen Warriors.  Cool Jersey.

I think it's a super cool jersey and glad to hear that everyone agrees.

I just get a bit nervous about the idea of wearing a depiction of the flag. I think the etiquette says that it's improper to wear an actual flag, so the depiction is probably OK, but I still wonder. I know a lot of people take the respect of the flag very seriously. Again, I'm not saying that this is disrepectful, just saying that I honestly don't know.

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like this may be my next purchase.

I found it on ebay. I wanted something patriotic so did a search for "USA cycling" and this came up. It says it is 83 Sportswear brand, so I'm not sure of quality, but I guess we'll see. The seller is "love2pedal" and I've only seen an auction for a medium.

While reading the following -
http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30243.pdf
especially Page 16 (in PDF, but referenced as Page 13), "Use of the Flag in Jewelry, Commercial Products, Wearing Apparel, and Advertising", there can still be some loose interpretation and how it would reference the jersey.

I would say that it would not be a problem and think it's pretty cool and not desecrating the American Flag (even though the flag is not truly a "full" American flag display).

I, like you never served; but also have utmost respect for those who sacrifice that I may enjoy my rights and freedoms. Very cool of you to be concerned.

Zed made valid point. But all comments from veterans have been positive. At first glance, the black over flag was concerning, however the symbols and wording on back makes it appropriate.

A fitting tribute to our fallen and wounded veterans IMHO. Wear with pride.

The answer to the "who makes it" - Fallen Warrior Military Tribute Cycling Jersey by 83 Sportswear

Google Honor the fallen bike jersey...Amazon and others have it...

BTW - I think its a great tribute - wear it with pride and remember - when you are hurting on that hill- that's nothing compared to the sacrifice of the Warriors you are honoring!

Another Navy veteran here, and I dig it... I think we all need to bombard them with requests to make Tri tops & suits with these designs.

And, here's the manufacturer's site: http://www.83sportswear.com/

Army vet. I would ask you what service you were in probably. If you said none, just wanted to contribute I'd have no problem with that at all.

Flag bit is tricky but that's more a representation of the flag and not making clothing out of a flag. World of difference.

Is this REALLY a "is this in poor taste" thread?  Or is it look at my cool jersey and how I support the troops thread.

The jersey IS cool, and it's is cool to support the troops, and I think only the rare few would think it's in poor taste as this thread has proved.

Actually it completely is an "is this in poor taste" thread. I saw the jersey, really liked it, but would not order it if any current military or veterans would feel offended by someone who never served wearing something like that. Kind of like a "you wouldn't know, you've never experienced it" sort of thing. So I wanted some affirmation that it would be accepted. I also think some of the US Army branded jerseys are really cool, but would never wear one since I'm not in the army. I just don't don't want people thinking I'm trying to be something I'm not.

And I did order the jersey after reading everyone's responses this morning. Thank you all for your input.

Of course not.  Who would?  Wearing something to say don't forget and honor our fallen warriors/soldiers/heros?  Respect to those who defend our country freedoms?  In poor taste?  I can't even imagine that I told any veteran that I wanted to pay my respects/thanks for their sacrafice of the fallen they would be offended since I'm not a veteran myself.
