Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: RE: SA - no Chick-fil-A for you This makes me sad. The airport system here is in dire need of updated, decent food choices at both terminals. It also makes me sad to see hate based politics creeping into my city. The 'Latino brother in law' system of politics that has pervaded every aspect of running SA, is grudgingly accepted as how things get done (sort of and slowly) down here. Sure, it's slow and usually things get accomplished a half measure at a time. But we just hold our arms out at our sides and proclaim, "that's just how it is here." Now we get hate based politics driven by Roberto Trevino. My understanding is that he schemed it all up because he's polling pretty tight in an upcoming race. His thinking was that he could get the LGBTQ community rallying behind him with enough votes to put him over the top. I think the opposite will happen. I left hate based local politics behind when I moved from Houston 20 years ago. SJL, one of the absolute masters of the craft, cut her teeth using this slimy tactic in Houston City Council votes. It served no purpose and brings political stale mate to local government. I hope this thing gets brought to another vote and Trevino gets his grommet handed to him in the process. |

Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: RE: SA - no Chick-fil-A for you Looks like this goes all the way up to the mayors office. There's a run off election tomorrow and we shall see if it affected his campaign. The mayor has reportedly said that CF does not represent the values of SA and later backpedalled saying something about not being able to buy waffle fries on Sunday if the store was put in the airport. He's about as slimy as the last several mayors, with the exception of Ivy Taylor. His competition is likely as slimy, but I hope he loses anyway. |

That's all I really know about the world right now. i don't even have room in my brain for anything else. Sorry to hijack your thread......but the Blues are on the verge of their first title in franchise history. And I don't know if you know this, but they lead the series 3-2. I don't know if I mentioned the 3-2 series lead, but the Blues have that in their match against the Bruins. |

Perron is the one we are watching. Of course being a local boy they talk about him.....they should have called a penalty....but that's ok, the Bruins lost. |

I can certainly understand how he is a favorite son up there, but there is history here with him....and, as I'm sure you know, he's bounced around quite a bit and not really considered a "team guy"....at least that's always been the knock on him. Right now, I don't care.....it's been a long wait here. I'm old enough, having been a hockey fan for life, that I vividly remember the Blues' first years when the expansion 6 had their own bracket where the winner faced the winner of the original 6's bracket.....so the Blues ended up playing Montreal in the 68 and 69 Cup series, and Boston in 70.....swept 4-0 in each series. I was a 10 year old boy watching on Black and White TV. For what it's worth, if I wasn't such a Blues fan I would be a Canadiens fan......I love the history of your team and was always in awe of guys like Richard, Beliveau, Lemaire, and Vachon in goal.....and of course Ferguson was a monster enforcer for those teams. As a kid, they WERE hockey to me and I always enjoy when that organization has success. Edited by Left Brain 2019-06-07 4:28 PM |

For game 7 they have sold out the Enterprise Center where the Blues play AND Busch Stadium where the Cards play....in less than 1/2 hour....for folks to watch the game on the jumbotrons. If the Blues can pull this off, the party won't end until after the weekend. LOL |

Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: RE: SA - no Chick-fil-A for you How it affects the town is the best part. We just moved here when the Spurs got their first title. What a sight. Everyone had Spurs banners flying fro their cars. Silver and Black everywhere. I don't recall any serious incidents whenever they won the title. Prolly an marked increase in DUIs, but that's about it. |

Those idiots will be so busy laughing, drinking, and having a good time they'll forget they're basketball fans and don't know how to act right. Very disturbing. In many ways There are two things that come out of it. The fact people couldn't just celebrate and be civilized is not limited to Toronto. I was downtown Montreal the last two times the Canadians won the cup and the night of the game there was vandalism. While sad, it's somewhat predictable. Things are fine for the first few hours after the game, then the trouble makers show up and their only objective is to break things. But the fact Toronto had gun shots adds is a whole different story. Toronto is perceived to have hand gun issue. I think they just have a different gang problem than other cities. They have been talking about a crack down. Hopefully they will do something. We all know where the guns come from. I think we need a wall to keep the riffraff out. |

They live in the same neighborhoods as really good people do......and rooting out one without offending the other is a very tricky deal. I've lived it, and had as much failure as I have had success at balancing the two. Good luck.....truly. |

I am by no means an expert in organized crime but I think we have different organized crime in Montreal than Toronto. I think the Hell's A are more in charge and a little less obvious on a day to day basis. A guy I knew worked for the organized crime division of the RCMP and told me every city is different. One city has the Russian mob, another the Asian mob, we have the Hell's..... |

Investigators said a 19-year-old man became involved in an altercation with another man. Police allege the other man produced a gun, shot the 19-year-old man and continued to shoot even as the man had fallen. The 19-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The suspect then fled with a group of friends, according to police. Officers who were very close to the area were able to stop the group and seized guns and drugs, police say. Other articles state some of the guys were also charged with breach of probation. Obviously they skipped choir practice more than once. Apparently 6 have been arrested which is nice. The police moved quickly. Edited by marcag 2019-06-19 5:26 AM |
