it's that time.... those heavenly cookies are available - in Texas atleast!  Have been out all day with 9yr old selling... unknown brownies invaded our turf this year!  Called out the Marines (literally and figuratively - GS mom is ex-Marine adns he got her daughter to get moving upon hearing unknown GS brownies are in the hood) to get to houses before the unknown girls got them in our neighborhood.  LOL it lite Alyssa's fire to get moving a little faster.

139 boxes sold 590 to go to get to her goal..... I got alot of walking to do.

I understand.  This year my Cub Scout son really got the popcorn selling fever and we were out almost every night selling in our neighborhood.  He ended up being the top seller in the Pack.

Well, his two younger sisters saw this and have been waiting none too patiently to go cookie selling with Daddy this year.  We were out last night (70 degrees, nice) and this morning (34 degrees with a 15 mph wind) hitting the neighborhood.

My husband called to say a friend's daughter was at our house selling and asked on the phone what I wanted, so we placed our order through her. I do not buy from parents who are lame and post the order forms at work outside their offices. I only buy directly from the kids that are actually working for that patch. We were only going to get 4 boxes, but then she said if we got 5 then it's  $20. So she even had the sales pitch down.

We have had our forms for awhile and haven't even started selling yet!!  I better get on the ball and start pimping my daughter out having my daughter go door to door.  Who can resist an adorable Brownie in her cute little uniform asking if you want to buy cookies??  I even buy from other little girls who knock on my door.  Can't say no.  Samoa's are my favorite.  Yum....

I am with you on the posting on the office door, but we have a guy who adopted triplet girls (at three years of age) so I felt like he had triple the goal and caved when they became old enough to sell.

I believe you are referring to the Thanks-A-Lot which is a shortbread cookie with a fudge bottom or maybe the Peanut butter patty which is shortbread cookie, layer of pb and COVERED in chocolate.... either are equally good!

Got another day tomorrow already planned on which streets to hit and when.... Alyssa maps it out and plans when to hit based on church times.

I am very proud of her - she has been top seller her 2 years of selling and we DO NOT pimp the cookies for her.  we will take her wherever and whenever she wants but she has to work it.   ALL the other girls in our troop have parents who sell for them and don't make girls put any effort into it.  Needless to say, my daughter can hold a conversation with any adult w/o giggles or shyness - she's comfortable talking to people which is a huge goal of cookie sales.  So talk with the girls and ask them questions - how's it going, what are their goals, what do they plan to do with funds, what are badges and patches on uniform from etc....

Not sure if I will get any cookies this year. One of the guys at work used to bring his daughter around, but I feel like that already should have happened. The one guy whose son is a boyscout didn't come around this year selling popcorn, so I wonder if people were told that they couldn't solicit fundraisers at work anymore b/c of the economy or something. I don't always see girlscouts outside the grocery store, b/c I don't usually go to the one they seem to frequent. So, we'll see. I don't mind, really, since I'm trying to lose weight and don't need cookies hanging around. They are tasty though - peanut butter patties are my favorite.

There is a box you can check to donate the cookies to troops overseas.  That is what I did.  That way I (a) supported my co-workers kids (b) supported the troops and (c) won't eat the boxes of cookies myself.  Nothing like selfish motivations to further charity

Yes but I want to point out that is troop specific.  Not all GS troops do a cookie share and those who do few will do it for the troops overseas as they have to figure a way to get them over there - which usually means paying for postage themselves.  Cookie Share is a program where you purchase a box for an organization the girls have chosen and the box goes to that organization.

Here in Houston, the council likes to have the boxes remain in the area so they romote Ronald McDonald House, local VA hospital, shut in food banks etc.... It's a great way to get people to buy more cookies (I'm troop cookie mom so I'm evil in promoting this) bahwahhhhh

I just keep thinking about Thin Mints!  I can't get those off my mind!  Putting them in the fridge.  Waiting for a couple of hours.  Opening the fridge.  Taking the Thin Mints out of the box.  Opening the package.  Devour! *drool*

Geez, Lauren, THANKS!

We don't start our sale until Jan. 22nd.  I feel so bad because I'm the troop leader and I'm going away the 23rd - 26th!  My girls don't go door to door except to our closest neighbors - we don't know anyone else around here so we stick to the ones we know.  We do set up a stand at the end of our driveway and try to sell around commuter time and we do a bunch of booths at the grocery store and the farmer's market.  I also let them send the list into DH's office.  They know lots of people there so they go say hi when we drop it off, they fill the order and write a thank you note and they deliver the cookies.  I don't think it's a big deal - it's not like DH is knocking on doors trying to sell them.

Oh, and my favorites are the lemon ones!

I'm with you there! My rule is: If you want me to buy cookies, you need to be wearing a uniform. So far, I haven't seen any of the parents willing to do this.

I'm a little bummed because I live way out in the country on a long private road, so we don't get the cute kids coming door-to-door. But I always buy a few boxes when I see them at the grocery store.

Who can resist an adorable Brownie in her cute little uniform asking if you want to buy cookies??  I even buy from other little girls who knock on my door.

hee hee - ME! I refuse to buy from Brownies. Trust me, when your daughter hits Juniors (or whatever the he!! they call the next step now!!!), you will understand. Because, you see, "Who can resist an adorable Brownie in her cute little uniform asking if you want to buy cookies??" I only buy from older girls. They have a MUCH harder time selling, and are usually working toward much higher goals.

Fortunately, I have thus far avoided cookie time, even though all the papers I print have a press release about it. I don't think we have any scouts in church, so I'm lucky there. That was where I Cleaned.Up. Heh, everyone buys from the priest's kid! I still have lemon ones and thin mints in the freezer from last year, I do NOT need more! There is nothing quite like curling up in front of a fire on a snowy December evening dunking shortbreads (Trefoils) in a cup of cocoa. Not only is it delish, it is evil fun knowing everyone else is in serious GS Cookie withdrawal and I've carefully rationed mine over the year!

I buy from any Boy Scout or Girl Scout who comes to my door, and almost any kid selling anything. I have sold a lot of stuff/crap for charities over the years, and I have a great deal of empathy for kids going door to door.
