Subject: RE: Why seek public office?I agree with Wookie.
I remember when they were looking to appoint the director of National Security. (I'm sorry that I don't remember names here ) The nominated man was VERY QUALIFIED for the position because he had been in leadership in NYC on 9/11. However he was disqualified from the running because he had an illegal nanny a few years ago or something like that. What does one have to do with the other? Especially when it comes to national security?
Anytime someone runs for public office, the opposing party starts digging for dirt to discredit them. If it is something that idicates an on-going character flaw (like Clinton's womanizing and lying ) then that is one thing. If it is a single stupid decision (like Clinton smoking dope in college ) then it's another. However, the media (and opposing political parties ) do not seem to want to differentiate. They just want something bad that they can embarass the opposition with.
Personally, I have led a decent life, but not a perfect life. I would be hesitant to run for public office because I'm afraid that something embarassing that I did in college might be plastered across the news.
As a result, we don't necessarily get the best people for the jobs at hand, IMO. |
