Subject: Oh which bike which bike to get

Hi All

This is one of my 1st posts here and I have a question that I am sure has been asked countless times and I am sure it has countless answers. I am trying to get as much info/opinion as possible b4 i make the decision.

I was just fitted for a bike (I don't have one) and got it narrowed down to two.

Cervelo Team Soloist and Kuota K Factor SL

Do I go for the Road bike setup with a reversable seat option (can be made to a 76deg) in the cervelo or

Do I go with the tri set up Kuota (also a 76 deg) but get a full carbon momocoque frame?

The one question is always do you do road rides or is it just for Tri's. Well it will be for Tri's, but obv all the training will be on road and yes it would be nice to get into some group rides. My thought on group rides is if the group is too snobby to have someone on a tri bike ride with them, I most prob don't really want to ride with them anyway. I see no prob with a tri set up in a group if I am going to stay off the aero bars.

both are good bikes and fit well and both are about the same price.

What would you do and why?

Thanks

I think that you answered your own question.  If you are considering doing group rides along with triathloning and can only afford one bike then you want a road bike.  The Cervélo Soloist Team is the best choice for you.  Yes, I will undoubtedly get "flamed" for this as it is an aluminum bike and the Kuota is carbon.  BUT the Soloist Team is perhaps the best aluminum road bike around and it can be converted into an excellent tri bike.

You better hurry though if you want to buy the anodized grey framed Team because Cervélo has just announced it's 2009 bike lineup.  Many of their bikes are renamed and decked with new paint schemes.  The Soloist Team will be renamed the S1 and will sport a red and grey paint scheme.  No word yet on the new prices.

I have a number of bikes but ride my K Factor 95% of the time from March until the weather gets bad then on the trainer indoors in the winter.

You said if the group was snobby to not include tri bikes you wouldn't ride with them..sounds like you are sold on a tri bike then. There are many group rides that are open to triathletes and some that are put together by groups of triathletes as well. It really depends on which group you will be riding with and that is hard to know now.

I have found if I do group rides on my tri bikes they just don't want me to ride in aero in a pace line.

My normal answer is get the one that fits best but obviously they both do.

Being on BT for 5 years I see many folks steered towards a road bike to start and within a year they end up getting a tri bike. If you think you are more into tris get the tri bike.
