Is there a way for the originator to "check" a box when their item is sold, so that a display of "SOLD" will be added to the thread title?  and/or for an override for the moderators to be able to do so in the event the OP forgets to do so. 

Sure would be nice to not have to open each listing to find out if the item has been sold.

No, and I don't see adding it anytime soon. Customizing the Classifieds forum is a low priority for us. There are a lot of other ways we can spend our programming time that would be more beneficial to the community at large.
