Subject: Which training session to let go?

My family and I are going away this weekend (Seattle Mariners Baseball and Seattle Zoo) so my opportunities to train are somewhat limited.  I will have access to a treadmill and maybe a upright or recumbent bike at the hotels.  I skipped my recovery day on Monday and swam instead and moved my other sessions up one day.  Today I actually doubled up on swimming and running.  My question is I have a 1.5 hr. bike yet to do and a 50 min. run.  I feel like I need a recovery day this week.  If it were you which sessions would you give up the run or the bike?

You should also know In a week from this coming Sunday I have a Race (Sprint Tri) so I will be tapering my sessions back that week.  I feel Ok with my bike this week and last as I included some major hills preparing for a Sprint Tri in Sept. that is pretty hilly.   The Bike on this upcoming Sprint Tri is pretty flat.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The run is probably easiest to fit into your schedule. I wouldn't worry too much about missing a training session here or there - all of us do. There's no need to be a slave to your plan... If you feel like the session you miss according to your plan is a key session, then include it in your training early next week in place of a "less key" session.

Honestly, there's not much you're going to do this weekend or early next week that's going to impact your race next weekend (unless you over-do and go into the race fatigued). Is the race next weekend an important race to you, or more of a fun, train-through kind of thing? If it's an important race, then I would say just fit in whichever workout you can do most easily this weekend, and just let the other one go. If it's not an important race, and you're using it for experience and/or to build for another race, then you can try to fit the session you miss this weekend in early next week.

Bottom line - don't sweat it.... Do the best you can, and enjoy the weekend with your family!!

It sounds like you have already decided to not bike, so that sounds good.  It's going to be a very hot weekend here so an early morning run is probably a good idea, to keep the legs active and also see our beautiful city!  Enjoy, and good luck in your race, too!
